A limited number of Timberland golf spikes were sold through Subway’s website
They cost $450 and modeled on shoes from the film
Resellers have flipped them for nearly $1,000
We’ve got something pretty unusual today. Netflix recently released Happy Gilmore 2, and that included a host of collabs with other brands. Subway has been running a special Happy Gilmore meal promotion with collectable cups, along with some exclusive merch, including a pair of Timberland Golf Spikes as seen in the film. These sold out pretty fast and were produced in limited numbers. Now we’re seeing them relisted on eBay for almost double their retail price.
Reselling movie merchandise is nothing new. Usually, we cover familiar products like collectable popcorn buckets or drinkware, but Happy Gilmore 2 has taken things to another level.
Odyssey’s custom hockey stick-shaped putter has been a huge hit with golfers, and now Subway has stepped in with their own piece of tie-in merch. Subway sold a limited number of Timberland Golf Spikes through their website this month, based on the spikes Happy himself wears in the film.
It’s unclear why Subway is selling these and not Timberland or literally any other company, but we’re not complaining. Subway’s Happy Gilmore 2 Golf Spikes retailed for $450, and were available in men’s sizes 9 through 11.
These sold out fast. It’s not clear how many were actually made, but we’re guessing these were fairly limited. They weren’t promoted heavily either, and there’s really not much information on them aside from the listing.
Sometimes all you need is a niche product and a few people out there willing to buy it off you. Because of limited these shoes were and how fast they sold out, it’s looking like a market is slowly emerging.
Earlier this week, at least one pair of Subway’s Happy Gilmore 2 Timberland Golf Spikes sold on eBay for ~$950. Several more are currently listed for sale at a similar price.
Admittedly that’s not a lot of data to go off of, but it is promising. And there is a precedent for Happy Gilmore 2 merch reselling for a profit; the Odyssey putters we mentioned before are flipping for up to $900 from a $500 MSRP.
We’ll be keeping our eyes on these shoes and other Happy Gilmore 2 merch in the next few weeks. It’s clear that fans are willing to fork over their cash even for the weird stuff, and there’s still plenty of time for more merch to drop.
In the meantime, make sure you subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay updated on other upcoming flips. From the hottest vinyl releases to rare perfumes to even rarer cards, we cover everything worth reselling for a profit.
