RSD 2025 includes tons of exclusive vinyl
Some records are limited to less than 1,000 units nationwide
Resellers score tons of profit every year
It’s almost time. Vinyl resellers across the country are excited for Record Store Day 2025, which begins tomorrow. Artists take the opportunity to spin up limited edition variants of their most popular works on vinyl, and fans rush to stores to pick up what they can, while they can. It’s one of the most profitable days of the year for any reseller, and we’ll be going over all the info you need before tomorrow.
Even if you’ve never listened to a vinyl record in your life, you should have this event on your calendar. Record Store Day is an annual celebration of the local record store that originally launched in 2007. Every year, it’s grown larger and more profitable.
Over the last few years, the organizers of RSD have teamed with big names like Taylor Swift and Dave Grohl for limited edition releases, and it’s now common to see a long list of RSD-exclusive drops.
And while vinyl is the major focus, there are also special CDs, posters, and cassettes that drop on RSD. We’ve covered the biggest drops from the last two years, and now we’re back again in 2025.
First, basic details. Record Store Day 2025 falls on Saturday, April 12. As an event focused on local record stores, most of the items we’ll be covering are only available in-person. Online sales are very uncommon, so plan to drive around.
It’s a good idea to check RSD’s list of participating stores before you head out. You’ll be able to see where each store is, their hours, and what stock they might be carrying. Some drops are limited to particular regions, and sometimes only a handful of stores might carry them.
This year’s Record Store Day ambassador is Post Malone, who’s coming off a series of tours in the US and Europe. He’ll be dropping an RSD-exclusive vinyl that we’ll be talking about below.
Here are the biggest drops for RSD 2025. These should be at the top of your shopping list, and scoring any of them should net you some easy profits in the next few weeks.
Note that RSD does not post MSRPs for their products. Stores are free to price their records how they see fit, although most of the releases we cover will fall in the $20 to $60 range.
This is the biggest no-brainer on a list of no-brainers. After releasing in late 2024, Wicked has been an absolute cash cow for resellers on nearly every front. Wicked Barbies, Wicked popcorn buckets, Wicked collectors editions have all dropped and flipped for easy profits.
For RSD 2025, a limited run of Wicked soundtracks will be released as a two-disc LP. These include the full soundtrack along with a bonus song previously only available through streaming platforms. Additionally, an exclusive poster is included with the vinyl.
RSD 2025 Wicked vinyl records are limited to just 2,000 units and expected MSRP of around $60. As a highly limited flagship drop, expect staunch competition and solid profits if you snag one.
Legendary film composer John Williams will be contributing four different vinyl collections to RSD 2025. These cover the first four films of the franchise, each produced as a separate two-disc LP.
RSD 2025 Harry Potter vinyl soundtracks are limited to 4,000 units each. Again, no posted MSRP, but we’re expecting around $30 to $40.
Expect to see these flip for solid profits, and they’ll be much easier to snag than the Wicked vinyl.
As Record Store Day 2025’s ambassador, Post Malone has contributed an exclusive collection of 14 songs produced as a tribute to Nirvana.
This is the first time this performance has been released on vinyl, and will be extremely popular with Post Malone and Nirvana fans.
But there’s a catch. The RSD 2025 Post Malone Nirvana vinyl will be limited to 17,000 units. This makes them fairly risky, and also means they probably won’t resell for crazy prices. Still, we expect these to be profitable and recommend keeping some space in your cart for one.
Because it wouldn’t be Record Store Day without a Taylor Swift exclusive. Swift was named RSD’s first global ambassador in 2022, and has contributed several of their most popular (and profitable) releases in the last few years.
For 2025, she’s produced an RSD-exclusive 7″ vinyl of Fortnight featuring Post Malone. These included special album art and a B-side remix by BLOND:ISH.
It’s worth noting that no stock numbers have been posted. We have no idea how limited these records actually are, which means there’s a degree of risk involved.
Then again, it’s Taylor Swift. It’s not uncommon to see her drops sell out even with hundreds of thousands of records loaded. We’re expecting an MSRP of around $16, so keep an eye out for these tomorrow.
Back to movies. April 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides.” To celebrate, an exclusive vinyl version of the critically-acclaimed soundtrack will be sold during RSD 2025.
These might end up being a sleeper hit. In addition to the standard LP, a bonus 7″ disc with the song “Make it With You” is also included. These are limited to 5,000 units with an expected MSRP of $30. We recommend picking up any copies you come across.
What we’ve covered above is some of the most popular vinyl expected to release tomorrow, but you should keep your eye for other releases from artists like Gracie Abrams, Gorillaz, and Queen.
Before you make your shopping list, familiarize yourself with the Record Store Day 2025 official list. This includes all of the releases for tomorrow’s event, along with stock numbers and any special labels.
RSD has three different labels for each drop’s exclusivity: “Exclusive,” RSD First,” and “Small Run/Regional.”
Exclusive denotes that the product will only be released physically at local record stores during RSD 2025.
RSD First indicates that the drop will sold in-person first, then online or through other retailers after RSD 2025 ends.
Small Run/Regional refers to some of the most limited products released tomorrow. The majority of these will be limited to less than 1,000 copies, while regional vinyl will only be available in a particular geographical area (sometimes that means just one or two stores.)
If you live near any stores participating in a small run/regional drop, we recommend trying to buy one. Prioritize limited edition vinyl from big names, and keep your eye out for anything marked RSD-exclusive.
And don’t forget to have some fun! Pick up something for your personal collection and feel good about supporting local small businesses. This is one of the most profitable opportunities out there for any reseller, and it only comes once a year, so don’t skip out.
As always, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter if you want to learn more about reselling. We cover all the latest drops, so join the fun and start making money this weekend.
