Key Points

  • Ascended Heroes features 290+ cards including a new “Mega attack rare” card rarity

  • The Pokemon Center exclusive Elite Trainer Box retailed for $60 and sold out within minutes

  • This expansion follows a staggered release schedule, with ETBs releasing in February

The Pokemon TCG is kicking off 2026 with over 290 new cards, and if you’re a Pokemon collector or reseller, you already know this is going to be big. Mega Evolution is officially back with Ascended Heroes, the first special set of the year dropping January 30. We’re talking Mega Dragonite ex leading the pack alongside returning favorites like Mega Charizard Y and Mega Gengar, plus brand new Mega Evolution Pokemon that haven’t been seen in the TCG before.

What's Actually Dropping This Month?

This release is landing on the same day as Pokemon Day 2026 collections celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, so retail shelves are going to be absolutely packed with product. We’ll cover those Pokemon Day items in a separate article, but for now, let’s focus on what makes Ascended Heroes worth your attention and money.

Unlike most Pokemon sets, Ascended Heroes isn’t getting booster boxes or individual booster packs at retail. You can only get packs through specialty products, and the January 30 wave is limited to three items: the Ascended Heroes Collection featuring either Erika’s Tangela or Larry’s Komala ($10 for two packs), the Tech Sticker Collection with Charmander/Gastly promo cards ($16 for three packs), and if you somehow snagged one, the Pokemon Center exclusive Elite Trainer Box ($60 for 11 packs).

Ascended Heroes Chase Cards Tangela Komara

The regular Elite Trainer Box doesn’t hit until February 20 at $60, with Mini Tins ($10 for two packs) following the same day. Premium Poster Collections drop March 20 at $50 for 10 packs, and the Booster Bundle arrives April 24 at $29.99 for six packs. This staggered release is unusual and probably reflects Pokemon struggling to keep up with demand after the Prismatic Evolutions chaos in late 2025.

Target, Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, and local card shops will all have the January 30 products, but expect lines and purchase limits. The Pokemon Center exclusive ETB already sold out during presales in December and isn’t restocking at retail. Most stores are implementing 2-4 item limits per customer to combat scalpers, though that hasn’t stopped people from lining up at multiple locations.

If you miss out on launch day, Amazon and other online retailers typically restock within a week or two, but you’ll be competing with bots and paying potential markups. Your best bet is showing up early at a physical store on January 30 or hitting up a local game shop that might have allocated product.

Ascended Heroes Resells on eBay

The Pokemon Center exclusive ETB is the hottest flip right now. Retail was $60, current eBay presales are hitting $100-$150, and some confirmed orders are selling for $120-$140. After eBay’s 13% fees, you’re looking at up to $100 in profit per box if you can move them quickly. The problem is most resellers already missed this boat since Pokemon Center allocations sold out in December.

Ascended Heroes Pokemon ETB for Sale

Tech Sticker Collections are more accessible and already showing promise. These retailed for $16 and current presales are in the $28-$38 range on eBay. That’s about $8-$15 profit per unit after fees, which isn’t huge but adds up if you can source multiple. The Gym Leader Collections are smaller but still doubling from $910 to $18-$25, netting you roughly $5-$9 per flip.

Standard ETBs releasing February 20 will be the real test. At $600 retail, these need to hit at least $80-$90 on the secondary market to be worth the flip after eBay fees. Given that the Pokemon Center version is already commanding $100+, there’s definitely room for profit on the regular version, especially in the first few weeks when supply is tight.

Cards to Watch For

Based on the Japanese Mega Dream ex set, there are some serious chase cards coming to Ascended Heroes. Mega Gengar ex in its various rarities is already the set’s heavy hitter, with Special Illustration Rare versions clearing $800+ in Japan. Mega Dragonite ex as the set mascot should command strong prices, especially in SIR form. Mega Charizard Y and Mega Lucario ex are always collector favorites that hold value.

The N’s Zekrom promo exclusive to Elite Trainer Boxes (both Pokemon Center and standard versions) will be relevant since it’s a popular Trainer’s Pokemon. Previous N promos like N’s Reshiram from past sets held $15-$30 values long-term, so this one should follow suit.

Illustration Rare Pokemon across the board will be worth pulling. With 33 IRs in the set, that’s a lot of chase cards keeping booster pack values high. The 22 Special Illustration Rares include both Mega Evolution Pokemon and Trainer cards, giving collectors multiple high-end targets.

Bottom Line

If you can cop the Pokemon Center exclusive ETB, you’re looking at solid profit right now. Tech Sticker Collections and Gym Leader Collections at retail are decent flips with low buy-in and quick turnaround. The real money play is probably waiting for regular ETBs in February and flipping them in the first week before supply normalizes.

This is shaping up like Pokemon 151’s release in 2023, where early sealed product commanded 140-300% premiums before settling into more reasonable long-term values. The difference is Ascended Heroes has a staggered release schedule that might spread out the hype and prevent the same explosive growth. Be strategic, don’t overextend, and remember that sealed Pokemon products are only worth what someone will pay when you need to sell.

Ascended Heroes drops alongside Pokemon’s 30th anniversary celebrations, so retail is going to be absolutely packed on January 30. Get there early, know your limits, and have a backup plan if your primary targets sell out.
