Key Points

  • Callaway has produced a limited run of Odyssey Jailbird 380 putters

  • They are a replica of the club from Keegan Bradley’s win at the Travelers Championship

  • The $400 clubs are reselling for $800 or more

If you caught last month’s Travelers Championship, you had the chance to see Keegan Bradley not only win, but break the tournament’s record score. Understandably, this win has generated a bit of buzz around the golfer and his equipment. Callaway’s Odyssey brand produced a limited run of Odyssey Jailbird 380 putters, which are an exact replica of the club Bradley used in the tournament. These putters proved so popular that they’ve been reselling for double what they retailed for, even before the preorder window had closed.

It’s often been said that golf is the loneliest sport. There’s no one out there but you, no one to blame or rescue you. The only friends a golfer really has are the clubs out there with them. Understandably, that sometimes means spending quite a bit of money on one.

The Odyssey Jailbird 380 is a special limited edition putter produced by Callaway’s Odyssey brand. It’s an exact replica of the putter Keegan Bradley used to win the Travelers Championship on June 25, and also the same club Ricky Fowler and Wyndham Clark had in their bags at the 2023 US Open. Long story short, it’s a pretty good putter.

While pros have a great deal of flexibility and control over the clubs they use, and are able to commission custom ones from manufacturers, amateur players don’t have the same freedom. They have to rely on what’s currently in stock at a store or website. In the case of the Odyssey Jailbird 380, this club hasn’t been mass produced since 2014.

So, with a out-of-production club now thrust back into the mainstream and endorsements from the biggest players in the game, it creates a bit of an interesting situation. Players want the clubs, but manufacturers aren’t selling them. Until now.

Following Bradley’s win in Connecticut, Callaway spun up a limited run of these clubs to meet the demand. This isn’t a golf blog and we’re not particularly qualified to pore over the details of the club, but what we can say is that it’s high quality, very popular, and pretty expensive. It’s a nice club.

The Odyssey Jailbird 380 costs $400 directly from Callaway’s site, but the order window has now closed. If you think that price is steep, you should see what resellers are asking for them.

Odyssey Jailbird 380 Resells Quickly

Callaway allowed buyers to place an order for one of these clubs for around a week. They were first announced the day of Bradley’s win, and went up for sale immediately after. The Odyssey Jailbird 380 was sold through Callaway’s own site, as well as a few third party retailers.

While these other sites ran out of stock fairly quick, Callaway’s never did. The Jailbird 380 is a limited product, but perhaps not in the way you thought. These are being produced to order, meaning that everyone who bought one from Callaway will receive it come September, when they’re expected to ship. It’s not like Callaway only has a few hundred piled up in a warehouse.

Despite these being available for purchase for a week straight directly from the manufacturer, they have been reselling. There were several sales recorded before the preorder window closed, indicating that buyers were either too eager or dumb to bother checking Callaway’s site before purchasing from a reseller.

Currently, the Odyssey Jailbird 380 putter is reselling for around $800, twice what it retails for. A few have gone for more than $1,000.

Now that the preorder window has officially closed, prices will only go up. It may take a few days for the FOMO to accumulate, but the signs are all there. Considering these have resold for pretty ludicrous prices while they were still available from the retailer is an indication that the hype behind these putters is strong.

While it’s too late to buy these clubs now, you would have been tipped off if you were in RC Elite. Members were given advanced notice on these clubs, and knew where to buy and them and how much to list them for. Many members who purchased one ended up reselling it in less than 24 hours, and made $400 with a few clicks.
