Tame Impala Drops 12" Mystery Vinyl for Upcoming Project

As we all know, gambling is fun. Sometimes you want a little spice when it comes to what you’re reselling, and what’s spicier than literally having no idea what that item might be?

Here are the details: on July 17, Tame Impala’s webstore updated with a listing for a new vinyl record. Absolutely no details were provided; the records are pressed in plain black vinyl with a label that reads “TAME IMPALA” and “7:14”, while the sleeve is white and completely blank.

This looks like a vinyl record you’d buy in a European generic grocery. The website listing is similarly nondescript, offering only the price ($20), the product title (12″), and a short description reading “tame impala twelve inch, release date: soon”.

Obviously, this is intended as an exciting mystery for Tame Impala fans. While Kevin Parker has been making music (and keyboards) for the last few years, the last official Tame Impala release was 2020’s “The Slow Rush”.

After teasing new music at live shows in Australia and Spain and explicitly confirming it as part of an upcoming Tame Impala project, many fans believe that the music on this 12″ vinyl is at least partly from the new album.

It’s also worth noting that this vinyl released on the 10th anniversary of Tame Impala’s definitive album “Currents”. Parker commented on the album’s birthday on Instagram, but made no connection with the new vinyl’s release (he didn’t even officially mention it).

Still, the timing is hard to ignore. No matter what this record ends up being, one thing is clear: Tame Impala is back.

And new music means new opportunities for resellers to make a buck. We jumped on these new 12″ vinyl records as soon as they loaded.

Right now, Tame Impala’s 12″ July Mystery vinyl is reselling for anywhere from $100 all the way up to $200. Considering the $20 MSRP, that means some resellers are multiplying their money up to ten times by flipping this record.

That’s pretty damn good. The limited release meant these were hard to stock up on, but it’s worth noting that they released through three different regional stores at the same time. US customers were able to buy from the UK store (and vice versa), although the shipping prices were slightly higher.

Speaking of shipping, we have unofficial confirmation that these records will be shipping soon. Shopify listed the records are set for release on July 25. This coincides with hidden HTML code on Tame Impala’s website that hints at new music coming very soon.
