Mattel sold preorders for an Annabelle Monster High doll on August 9
They were available for $65 and limited to two per order
Annabelle dolls now resell for $120 or more
If you saw “The Conjuring” in 2013, you might remember Annabelle. The possessed doll from the movie has gone on to have her own film trilogy, and becoming an enduring icon on modern horror. What better way to celebrate that legacy than a Monster High doll? On August 9, a limited edition Skullector series Annabelle doll was sold as part of Mattel’s Monster High franchise. Within a few hours, all of the preorders had sold out, and they are now reselling for well above retail.
Now if you’re not in the know, you might not realize how lucrative reselling dolls can be. We’ve written about previous Monster High offerings in the past, and one thing has become clear: people like these dolls a lot. Enough to pay a serious premium to a reseller to get their hands on one.
“Skullector” series dolls are Mattel’s way of branding their limited edition dolls (skull + collector, get it?) These dolls typically feature a high degree of detail, unique packaging, and an inflated price tag.
The Annabelle Skullector doll is being well-received among Monster High fans. She stands at 10.5 inches tall, and is full of spooky features to excite fans of the film and Monster High collectors in general. Her appearance is generally based on “The Conjuring”, but she has also received various cosmetic upgrades to make her a bit more visually appealing.
One of the most unique aspects of the doll is her packaging. While most Skullector series dolls will receive a bit of extra attention when it comes to their presentation, Mattel went the extra mile for this one. The box is designed to look like the glass display case that contained Annabelle in “The Conjuring”, while the back and sides give the impression that she’s moving around.
When you look at the package from the front, Annabelle is in her chair. But when you view the package from the outer sides, it looks like the chair is empty
The Annabelle Skullector doll was first teased on August 1st, and she would be available as a preorder in a little over a week. On August 9, preorders for Annabelle Monster High dolls were opened for $65. Customers were limited to two per order. Unlike past Skullector products, Annabelle dolls did not require a premium Fang Club membership to purchase.
These dolls sold out quite fast, like most Skullector series dolls. Many of them were picked up by resellers before preorders closed, and eBay is full of listings for them. Monster High collectors take their hobby seriously, and many will fork over serious cash for the right doll.
Right now, Annabelle Monster High dolls are reselling for around $120. At a retail price of $60 and purchase limit of two, resellers who were quick enough to secure an order made themselves between $60 and $120 in profit last week.
