Five new items were sold during Messi’s second Stanley collab
$30 mate mugs and $60 mate systems were the most popular items
They are reselling for two to three times retail
Here at Resell Calendar, we believe every great flip deserves a sequel. Messi has reunited with the brains at Stanley for his second official collection of tumblers, this time featuring an alternate colorway and new mate mugs. This collaboration has been just as popular as the first, with resellers scoring major profits by flipping the new items. Let’s take a closer look at what was sold.
We hope you’re taking hydration seriously during these summer months. As we all know, it’s not just what you drink; but what you’re drinking out of that really counts. Dropping a few hundred on the right drinkware can make a real difference when it comes to staying hydrated (probably).
And if you’re easily swayed by trends and celebrity endorsements, check out Stanley’s latest collaboration with Lionel Messi that dropped earlier this week. This included their popular 40oz Quencher tumblers and bottles, along with a mate system and mate mug.
The entire collection is finished in a unique “Striker Blue” color with faux gold accents, along with Messi’s logo and a “10” symbol wreathed in laurels. Additionally, the exterior appears to a have a subtle raised lightning pattern.
The Stanley X Messi collection consisted of five items: 40oz tumblers for $55, a large jug for $65, bottles for $40, a mate mug for $30, and a mate system for $60. This is notably only the second time Stanley has sold their mate system to US customers, making it much more desirable than the rest of the collection.
Stanley first collaborated with Messi back in December. We covered the collection at the time and watched as the tumblers and mate systems flipped for well over retail, so it’s no surprise to see the brand double-dipping for more profits.
While reselling Stanley tumblers can still be lucrative, many resellers have been shifting their strategies in the last few months. Turning a profit from a 40oz tumbler is no longer a guarantee, so more eclectic and less common products are ideal for flipping.
Most resellers chose to target the mate mugs and systems, and these were the first (and only) items to sell out when the collection dropped. Right now, Stanley X Messi mate mugs are reselling for around $70, while the mate systems are flipping for over $150.
This is a pretty good example of the value of staying versatile while reselling. If you had just mindlessly bought up tumblers, you’d be left with an unpopular and profitable product. Meanwhile, the resellers that stocked up on mate systems and mugs are reaping profits of up to $200 depending on how many they bought.
