Marathon Collector's Editions are Reselling on eBay

Bungie’s Marathon Collector’s Edition came in two configurations: $220 with a digital game code and $170 without. The centerpiece is a 1/6-scale resin and PVC statue of the Thief Runner Shell, just over 10 inches tall with working LED lights, alongside a collectible Sekiguchi WEAVEworm figure, an embroidered patch, runner art postcards, and exclusive in-game cosmetics.

Push Square got an early look and called it one of the prettiest collector’s editions they’d ever seen, citing the premium hexagonal packaging and lenticular poster. The physical package delivers.

Marathon launched on March 5 to a complicated reception. The Metacritic critic score sits around 72, Bungie’s lowest-ever on the platform, and the game has been review bombed by a faction of Destiny 2 players unhappy with the studio’s pivot away from that franchise.

We’re not that concerned about this though. Marathon is proving itself remarkable sticky, averaging 345,000 daily active users and over 22% of players already clocking 50+ hours within three weeks of the game’s launch.

The people who pre-ordered a $220 collector’s edition for an extraction shooter weren’t casual players who bounced after a bad review. They were committed fans and Bungie loyalists who were bought in long before launch day. Players who have put real time into the game are largely loving it: Steam sits at 82% Very Positive, while critics who praised it pointed to best-in-class gunplay, a striking visual style, and a progression model that keeps dedicated players coming back. The extraction shooter audience is known for deep investment, the kind of fanbase that sustains long-term CE demand.

At launch, sold listings were clustered around retail or slightly below, which tracked with our initial analysis. The flip was always contingent on the game building momentum. That momentum has arrived. Current eBay sold listings are running $360 to $400, which represents roughly $115 to $155 in profit after eBay’s 13% fee on the $220 version.

That’s not the four-figure windfall you’d see if Marathon had become a universally acclaimed cultural phenomenon. But it’s real money, and the trajectory is upward. Prices have moved significantly in just the last week or two, which suggests demand is accelerating rather than leveling off.

Note that there were two versions of the Marathon Collector’s Editions sold. Versions bought directly through the Bungie Store included a digital code of the game for $220, while PlayStation store versions omitted this code and retailed at a lower $190. For resellers, the cheaper, codeless version is much more attractive.

If you’re holding, the short-term data supports patience. Prices moved from at-retail to $360 to $400 in under a month, and there’s no obvious reason for that trend to reverse while the game’s player counts are healthy.

If you missed the retail window, the flip math is thin enough at current prices that buying to flip doesn’t make a lot of sense. The opportunity was in the pre-order.

These are final sale, no returns, so anyone still holding is committed to seeing how this plays out. The smart move is to hold at least through Season 1 and reassess once the game’s long-term player retention becomes clearer.
