Leatherman ARC Multitools are Reselling for $400

Need a new multitool? Leatherman has got you covered, although that’s not terribly surprising. Earlier this month, Leatherman started selling the ARC as the latest development of their multitools. After an extremely positive reception, stores have had trouble keeping them on shelves. Now, resellers are flipping the tools for up to two times what they bought them for. Let’s take a look.

What is the Leatherman ARC?

We’ve talked a lot about Leatherman lately. This has been a big year for them with the introduction of the Garage series, and collectors have gone wild for the 40th Anniversary Tool and Harvest knife dropped recently. Both of those were highly-limited tools though. The upcoming Leatherman ARC on the other hand, is not.

The key feature behind the ARC is Leatherman’s FREE technology. It’s essentially a design principle based around one-handed operation; pretty much everything on the ARC can be opened, closed, and used with a single hand.

This is mainly accomplished through reduced friction and clever engineering, along with extensive use of magnets through the tool. The ARC itself features everything you’d expect from a Leatherman; pliers, screwdrivers, saws, and a remarkably sharp knife blade.

Speaking of which, the blade is made from MagnaCut steel. This is an alloy known for its extremely high durability and ability to hold, but still being quite sharp. Leatherman has been experimenting with MagnaCut steel recently, most notably on the 40th Anniversary Tool, but this is the first time the alloy has been used on a mass-produced multitool.

All together, it’s a well made tool that’s getting an outstanding reception. Leatherman shipped these tools out to reviewers ahead of their release, and they only had good things to say.

Leatherman ARC Price and Availability

Because of the premium materials and construction, this is a somewhat expensive multitool. The Leatherman ARC retails for $229, and would first start appearing as review copies in August.

The Leatherman ARC is set for a full retail release on October 17, 2023 (tomorrow). That said, they’ve already started to be sold in stores since at least late September.

We’re not sure exactly what the deal is, whether some stores have a special deal with Leatherman or this is sort of a soft launch, but there are Leatherman ARCs in circulation right now. Not many though, and they’re not being sold online yet either.

Leatherman ARC Multitools Resell

Because of how popular these tools have been with reviewers and the limited amount in circulation, the Leatherman ARC has been a profitable item to resell. It might take a little luck and hunting around at your local stores, but picking one up at retail is a no-brainer.

Right now, a Leatherman ARC is reselling for upwards of $400 at a time. A weeks ago when the knives first dropped at retail, resellers were flipping the tools for more $500, with a few confirmed sales closing in on $1,000.

Worth it? That’s up to the buyers. If they’re the kind of people that don’t mind dropping a few hundred on a multitool so they can have it before its official release, then it seems like they’re pretty happy. We know the resellers that flipped these tools for $200+ in profit are having a good time.
