  • Resellers immediately began turning huge profits and continue to do so today

With 2025 coming to a close, we’re turning the clock back a little more than a year to take a look at one of the most lucrative flips we’ve ever covered. Sony’s 30th Anniversary PlayStation collection dropped this time last year and immediately took the internet by storm. Resellers from across the world were competing with gamers to snag limited edition consoles, especially the ultra-limited Pro bundles. Even a year later they haven’t budged in price, and it’s likely these will continue to hold their value.

PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary Bundles

Take a break from the 24 hours news cycle with a blast from the not-so-distant-past. On September 26, 2024, Sony launched their expansive PlayStation 30th Anniversary collection to gamers worldwide.

It was built with love as a celebration of the brand’s heritage, decking out brand new consoles with a PS1-inspired flat gray color scheme and multicolored PlayStation logo. While the console was lightly mocked for its router-like design upon its reveal, gamers were quick to pile the love on the Anniversary editions.

The collection was especially notable because it included 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro bundles. The PS5 Pro had been revealed earlier that month, and was set to launch in November. Buyers would be able to buy a standard Pro or Anniversary Pro Bundle and receive either at around the same time.

Aside from the Pro bundles, the Anniversary edition also included special editions of the standard PS5, exclusive DualShock and DualSense controllers, and even a 30th Anniversary Edition of the PlayStation Portal handheld.

The entire collection was popular (and profitable), but all eyes were on the Pro bundles. These were limited to just 12,300 units globally, practically guaranteeing a feeding frenzy when they went up for sale.

And while the standard PS5 Pro got a lot of flak for its $700 MSRP, Sony priced the Anniversary Pro bundles at an eyewatering $1,000. They also delayed announcing this information until the collection went live, leaving a lot of fans reeling from sticker shock.

However, this was completely in line with our expectations as resellers, and we correctly predicted a price point of $1,000 – $1,200 before the launch date. Leaked pricing also confirmed this ahead of the drop, so most resellers came prepared.

It’s not like the $1,000 price tag slowed things down though. When these went live on the morning of the 26th, hundreds of thousands of people battered Sony’s website for their chance to snag a console. Almost everything sold out fast, with the Pro bundles going first.

And there was plenty of outrage against resellers before, during, and after the drop. It’s not our fault that Sony decided to make 12,300 of these and decided to sell them for $1,000 a pop. There was some pretty good trolling ahead of the drop though.

When something sells out as fast as these consoles do, they usually resell just as fast. We saw presale listings going up for weeks ahead of the drop, with most resellers fishing around to see exactly how much profit they could get.

Within minutes of the sale the consoles started reselling on eBay. Prices started out at $1,500, then $2,000, then $3,000, with outlier sales nearing $5,000 at a time. It was one of the most lucrative flips of the year, securing thousands in profit for a few minutes worth of clicking.

PS5 Pro Anniversary for Sale Scalper

Things kept rolling that way for the next few weeks. Obviously this couldn’t keep up ad infinitum considering how limited the consoles were, but of the 12,300 sold it seems like a solid percentage went straight into the loving arms of resellers.

What’s really impressive is how long the market has held up. We weren’t surprised to see them reselling for thousands after release, but those prices have stuck almost one year. The average PS5 Pro Anniversary bundle is still reselling for around $3,000 in September 2025.

Many of these are still sealed in their original packaging, and the current listings are a bit chaotic. Some sellers are listing theirs for under $1,000, while some are asking nearly $15,000 for theirs.

That might be a bit optimistic, but who the hell knows at this point. We don’t see prices budging downwards at any time soon. Give it a few more years, and maybe these actually will be flipping for ten grand.

Of course, we’ll be the first ones to report on it if that ends up happening. If you want to stay informed on the latest flips and popular products before they sell out, make sure you subscribe to our newsletter. We’ll see you on the next one.
