The Classic LS retailed for $40 but Spigen plays pricing games with a $60 list price and discount codes to bring it down
Cases reselling for $100 to $150 on eBay, though sales volume remains low
New preorders are available now but won’t ship until mid-March and don’t include the limited edition box or matching strap
Here’s a weird flip: Spigen recently unveiled their Classic LS case for the iPhone 17, riffing heavily on classic Macintosh design cues. It exploded online, with the initial drop selling out fast. A new batch of preorders is open right now, and the sold-out cases are already flipping for triple their retail price. But before you buy, there are some important caveats to consider.
This is Apple nostalgia done right. The Classic LS pays tribute to the 1984 Macintosh 128K with a stone-colored finish that mimics the beige plastic of early Macs.
Side buttons are styled like vintage keyboard keys, with “Hello” engraved on the power button. There’s even a floppy disk slot accent and a reimagined Spigen logo inspired by Apple’s classic rainbow logo.
Spigen opened preorders immediately after the sellout, and those ship in March. This means supply isn’t truly limited. Anyone can secure one now, they just have to wait two months. That’s your window: flipping to impatient collectors who want it now and don’t mind paying the premium.
The missing strap and box on new orders does create some differentiation for initial drop units, but it’s unclear how much buyers actually care about those extras versus the case itself.
If you’re interested, you can preorder the case right now through Spigen’s website or Amazon. If you choose the former, make sure you apply coupon code “CLASSICLS” to get the $40 retail price
At $40 retail to $100-150 resale, you’re looking at 150% to 275% margins before fees. After eBay’s 13% cut, profit ranges from about $47 to $91 per case. Not massive, but solid for a $40 investment.
That said, sales volume is really low right now. These aren’t moving in high numbers like hyped sneakers or trading cards. You’re banking on finding the right buyer who wants that specific Mac nostalgia and missed the drop.
If you copped during the initial drop with the strap and box, flip now while the hype is fresh. The longer you wait, the closer those March preorders get to shipping.
For anyone considering the preorder route as an investment, that’s probably a pass. By March, the initial frenzy will be over and plenty of people will have secured theirs. Plus you’re tying up $40 for two months with no guarantee of profit.
This is a higher-risk flip than usual. Limited sales volume, open preorder window, and unclear demand all work against you. The nostalgia factor is real, but it’s a niche audience. Smart play is quick flip if you have the initial drop version, otherwise skip it unless you actually want the case for yourself.
