This was a dead simple flip with plenty of upside

Key Points

  • Signed CDs retailed for $14 during the December TalkShopLive sale and are currently flipping for $40 to $50 on eBay

  • Signed vinyl retailed for $40 and is reselling for $120 to $130 across platforms

  • Each purchase was limited to one per household, keeping individual profits modest but reducing risk

It’s a bittersweet day for old fat alcoholics with skullets. Megadeth is releasing their final self-titled album tonight, and that’s spurring interest for signed copies of the record that sold during a livestream last month. The profits aren’t crazy, but they’re reliable, and exactly what we’d expect for a full cast of signatures from one of thrash’s Big Four.

Megadeth Self-Titled Album Signed Editions

Megadeth formed in 1983 after Dave Mustaine got fired from Metallica, and they spent the next four decades defining thrash metal alongside Slayer, Anthrax and Metallica as thrash metal’s Big Four. When Mustaine announced in August 2025 that the band’s 17th studio album would be their last, it created immediate demand among collectors and longtime fans who wanted to own a piece of the band’s legacy.

The self-titled album “Megadeth” releases in just over two hours, and it’s already generating serious collector interest. The record features 10 new tracks plus a reimagined version of “Ride the Lightning,” which Mustaine co-wrote with Metallica before his departure in 1983. It’s a full-circle moment that adds emotional weight to an already significant release.

In December, Megadeth teamed with TalkShopLive to sell limited signed copies ahead of the official release. The signed vinyl retailed for $40 and the signed CDs for just $14, with a limit of one per household. Both formats included a signed insert featuring autographs from the entire current lineup: Mustaine, Teemu Mäntysaari on guitar, James LoMenzo on bass, and Dirk Verbeuren on drums.

This wasn’t Megadeth’s first signed release for the album. Earlier drops through Louder and Metal Hammer sold out in minutes, with those variants already commanding $150+ on the secondary market. But the TalkShopLive sale offered the most accessible entry point for resellers, especially with the $14 CD price point.

The signed CDs are moving consistently between $40 and $50 on eBay, representing nearly triple the retail price. That’s $26 to $36 profit per CD after eBay’s 13% fees, which adds up quickly if you snagged multiple copies through different accounts or with help from friends.

Vinyl is performing even better. The $40 signed copies are consistently selling for $120 to $130, delivering roughly $90 profit after fees and shipping. Multiple sold listings confirm strong demand, with some copies moving within 24 hours of listing.

Megadeth Signed Vinyl CD for Sale

These numbers align with what we’ve seen from other Megadeth variants. The Louder exclusive “Ghostly” vinyl with signed art cards retailed for $50 and immediately flipped for $150+. The Metal Hammer copper/emerald variant, limited to just 250 copies, sold out in minutes and has shown similar appreciation.

Final albums from legendary bands carry premium value in the collectibles market. When acts announce their last studio release, completionist collectors scramble to secure every variant. The emotional weight of a farewell release drives demand beyond normal limited pressings.

Bottom Line

This was exactly the kind of low-risk flip we love to cover. At $14 for signed CDs, the downside was minimal even if they only doubled in value. The $40 vinyl offered more profit potential at only slightly higher risk.

If you followed our earlier coverage and copped these, you’re sitting on solid profits right now. The 3X returns on CDs and similar multiples on vinyl represent exactly why signed merchandise from retiring artists is worth watching.

Looking ahead, keep an eye on any remaining tour merchandise from the farewell run. Final tour exclusives from legacy acts often flip well, especially for a band like Megadeth with four decades of dedicated fans. We’ll continue tracking opportunities as they develop.
