The Hot Wheels Formula 1 2026 Concept Car retails for $25 and drops February 10 at 8 AM PST
The car features three sets of interchangeable tires and imaginative take on F1
Production numbers are unknown but limited through Mattel Creations, which typically means smaller production runs
In an alternate universe where leaded gasoline was never banned and American hegemony went unquestioned, Hot Wheels launched their very own Formula 1 team. That dream is brought into reality tomorrow with the brand’s 2026 F1 Concept Car, set to launch at 8 AM Pacific. Resellers, start your engines.
This is Mattel’s vision of what a Hot Wheels F1 team car would look like on the 2026 grid, designed in collaboration with Formula 1. The body reflects the updated 2026 regulations with a shorter wheelbase and revised aerodynamics. The number 68 on the car celebrates the year Hot Wheels first launched back in 1968.
The three sets of Pirelli tires come marked red, yellow, and white like actual race-day slicks, and there’s an included rack with the F1 logo to store the extras. It comes packaged in an illustrated blister card with a Kar Keepers clamshell case.
Mattel Creations’ previous F1 releases have been solid performers. Back in January 2025, they dropped 16 Premium F1 cars at $8 each that sold out within two hours despite a 5-per-account limit. Those hit eBay immediately with resellers asking $80, though actual sold listings show more realistic $30 to $50 range depending on the team.
The original generic Hot Wheels F1 car from last year retailed around $25 on Mattel Creations and currently sells between $35 and $60 on eBay based on sold listings. The 5-packs that retail for $6.25 were flipping for $50 to $100 on eBay before wider retail distribution hit.
At $25 retail, you’re looking at roughly $40 to $60 resale range if this follows the pattern of previous Mattel Creations F1 releases. After eBay’s 13% fees, that puts you at $10 to $20 profit per car before shipping costs. Not massive margins, but decent if you can secure multiple units.
The unknown production numbers work in your favor. Mattel Creations exclusives typically have smaller runs than retail releases, and the F1 partnership has proven popular with Hot Wheels collectors. The fact that this represents their 2026 concept car rather than an existing team livery could drive collector interest from both F1 fans and Hot Wheels completionists.
The positive here is that $25 isn’t a huge capital commitment per unit, so buying a few to flip won’t break the bank. Mattel Creations does accept returns within 30 days if you change your mind, though you’ll eat shipping costs.
The main risk is market saturation if they produce more than expected or if other flippers flood eBay immediately after the drop. Previous F1 releases saw initial asking prices drop once the hype settled and more units hit secondary markets.
If you’re already into Hot Wheels collecting or have been flipping Mattel Creations releases, this is worth grabbing a few. The profit isn’t huge, but it’s relatively safe at $25 retail with decent historical performance from similar releases. F1 collectors specifically want these premium versions with Real Riders wheels, not the mainline releases hitting retail stores.
Set your alarm, be ready right at 8 AM Pacific, and don’t sleep on it if you want to secure inventory before they sell out.
