Audemars Piguet Reveals a New Royal Oak Collab

Just 150 units will be produced in this partnership with Ambush

AP is having a big week in watch news. Less than a week after the Swatch x AP Royal Pop caused fights outside stores worldwide, the Swiss manufacturer has unveiled something at the complete opposite end of the spectrum: a hyper-limited Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon made with Yoon Ahn and Verbal of Tokyo’s Ambush Design. Same iconic octagonal Royal Oak DNA, completely different universe.

AP X Ambush Partnership

If you follow streetwear at all, Ambush needs no introduction. Yoon Ahn and Verbal are a husband-and-wife creative duo based in Tokyo whose fingerprints are on a significant chunk of modern fashion.

Yoon serves as Ambush’s creative director and has held design positions at major fashion houses, most notably Dior Men under Kim Jones. Verbal is a rapper and producer with roots in the Japanese hip-hop scene. Together they built Ambush into one of the most respected independent names in jewelry and streetwear. And in case you missed the Royal Pop chaos earlier this week, AP’s reach extends pretty far beyond the typical fine watch audience right now.

The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon built with Yoon and Verbal is based on the 38.5mm Concept case that made its debut in 2024. It’s a compact size by Concept standards, and in matte titanium it comes in at just 11.4mm thin. The case combines sandblasted, satin-brushed, and polished surfaces across the angular geometry. A black ceramic crown with a titanium chip finishes the winding stem.

The dial is one of the most interesting parts. Black aventurine, which is a type of glass containing metallic fragments, catches light and produces a subtle glitter effect. It’s a rare material choice for this type of watch and gives the piece a depth you won’t find on most open-worked dials. Parts of the movement push through the aventurine fragments, and the flying tourbillon sits at six o’clock, framed in a vivid red aluminium cage.

Red is a signature color for Ambush, and Verbal explained the choice: the tourbillon cage represents the heart of the watch, and red evokes the Earth’s core. It reads as a considered creative decision, not just a pop of color for its own sake.

Behind the Face

AP developed Calibre 2982 specifically for this collaboration. It builds on Calibre 2964, the Manufacture’s existing hand-wound flying tourbillon movement, adding refinements specific to this piece. The aluminium tourbillon cage is framed by red bridges, which ties the visual language of the movement to the external design. Power reserve is 72 hours at a 3Hz beat rate. The caseback is sapphire and titanium, so the movement is fully visible from the back with collaboration engravings.

A flying tourbillon differs from a traditional tourbillon in that it has no upper bridge supporting the rotating cage. This makes the mechanism appear to float, and it’s mechanically more demanding to produce.

Availability

The watch ships with two rubber straps featuring a micro-mosaic pattern and quilted inner lining: one black, one red. A grey variant is also available on request. The strap system is interchangeable, which is a practical touch on a watch this expensive and this limited.

Pricing is available on request, but with only 150 pieces being made, whatever number AP has in mind is just a formality. Last year’s KAWS Tourbillon was estimated to sell from dealers for around $300,000, and we’re expecting these watches to start in the same neighborhood.
