Key Points

  • Razer is accepting $20 fully refundable deposits to reserve Project AVA units

  • This is a US-exclusive opportunity with units shipping in order of reservation

  • Very low risk, and early deposits will be the most valuable

Ten years ago, they told us we’d be getting intimate with robots before 2030. If that means having an LLM-powered holographic anime girl watch you familiarize yourself with a Kleenex, it appears this prediction has come true. Razer’s newest reveal is “Project AVA”, and it’s the stereotypical gamer’s wet dream come true. Put a fork in that TFR, because its cooked.

What is Razer's Project AVA?

Project AVA started as a software-only AI gaming coach Razer announced at CES 2025. One year later, they’ve turned it into a 5.5-inch holographic desktop companion that sits next to your monitor. The device uses a glass cylinder design with an HD camera, dual microphones, and actual holographic display technology to project animated characters that can watch both you and your screen.

You get to pick from five different avatars including Kira (anime-style character), Zane (tattooed gaming bro), SAO (that Japanese girl with a weird smile that went viral last year), and others. Each avatar features eye-tracking, facial expressions, and lip-sync animations to make interactions feel more natural. The personalities are customizable from “bold and sassy” to “calm and friendly,” and the AI learns your preferences over time.

Yes, it looks like dogshit. Unfortunately, dogshit is in right now, and we can see these holograms flying on eBay when enough dorks get wind of them.

The device runs on xAI’s Grok AI engine right now, though Razer says they plan to support multiple AI platforms including their own Razer AI in the future. For competitive gaming, Razer emphasizes this is designed as a coach and trainer, not an automation tool that would violate terms of service.

Razer is positioning AVA as way more than just a gaming assistant. The device can manage your calendar, provide wardrobe suggestions (yes, really), help with work tasks, translate languages in real-time, and generally function as a full AI assistant that happens to be a hologram.

The camera and microphone array means AVA can see and hear what’s happening around you, offering contextual responses and even wellness coaching if that’s your thing. Whether you actually want a tiny holographic character commenting on your outfit choices is another question entirely.

How to Buy Project AVA

Head to Razer’s website and put down your $20 deposit. The website processes reservations immediately, and Razer confirms your spot in line via email. Remember that earlier reservations ship first, and cancellations are fully refundable at any time before shipping.

You can technically reserve multiple units if you’re willing to put down multiple $20 deposits, though Razer hasn’t specified any purchase limits yet. Given the refundable nature, securing multiple spots carries minimal risk if you’re serious about flipping these.

Why This Matters for Resellers

First off, this is US-exclusive, which is huge. To put it bluntly, this is the kind of product that would absolutely tear up Asian markets, so US resellers have a major advantage by securing early units.

Second, units ship in order of reservation. By getting in early, you’ll have the best chance at flipping your AVA for a profit while people further down the queue are forced to wait.

Third, and most importantly, deposits are fully refundable. This eliminates almost all of the risk from the flip, and it’s why we’re encouraging our readers to place a reservation now, especially when you consider the above points.

What Does Razer's Project AVA Cost?

The big unknown is final retail pricing. Razer hasn’t announced it yet, and we’re left in the lurch wondering what they will actually sell for.

Our most obvious comparison would be Dipal’s 3D AI Character Pods. These target a similar market with an AI-powered holographic companion, and currently sell for $579. The Dipal features significantly higher visual fidelity and expanded features though, and is primarily supported through a Kickstarter campaign.

We believe Razer is pricing AVA below this price point, and we’re expecting something in the $200 to $300 range. This is just a hunch, but it would make sense if Razer is genuinely trying to break into a new and obscure market.

Bottom Line

A $20 refundable deposit for priority access to a potentially limited-quantity tech product with international demand and no US competition is about as low-risk as reselling gets. Even if the final pricing kills the margins, you can walk away with your $20 back.

The unknowns are real – no final price, no confirmed quantity limits, and an undefined production timeline. But Razer’s track record with limited releases and the proven demand for AI companion devices suggest this could be a solid play for patient resellers willing to tie up $20 per unit.

Given Razer’s refund policy and potential demand, putting down deposits now is a no-brainer. Worst case, you’re out $20 temporarily. Best case, you’ve locked in early access to a limited tech product that international buyers will pay premiums for.

That’s all for now. It seems like Razer is set to make big moves in 2026. Before AVA, they announced the return of the Boomslang, one of the most iconic gaming peripherals ever released. We’ll be keeping our eyes on them into the new year.
