Polaroid X Pokemon Camera Collection Launches August 25

Polaroid’s Pokemon collection features three cameras based on Pikachu, Sylveon, and the iconic Pokeball. The first two are built on Polaroid’s Go Gen 3 camera ($100), while the Pokeball Camera is a Now Gen 3 ($140).

Polaroid is also releasing matching Color i-Type film with Pokemon frame designs, Go Color film double packs in Pikachu and Sylveon editions, a Go Camera Case, a Go Photo Album, and a camera strap compatible with both Go and Now models. Preorders open August 25 through Polaroid’s Pokemon collaboration page and Pokemon Center in the US, UK, and Canada.

Each film pack includes a darkslide featuring a random Pokemon’s silhouette and matching Pokedex number, similar to a trading card. It’s not clear how many variants will be made, but the samples shown on Polaroid’s website number up to #497.

Polaroid’s site has a sign up page for notifications and says the release is limited while supplies last, so preordering as soon as the window opens gives you the best shot at securing multiple units.

As is usually the case, Pikachu designs will be the most popular. But we also expect to see all the cameras in this collection to sell out quickly, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them reselling for triple digit profits quickly.

Our main concern is production numbers. Because these are going up for preorder in August and shipping in September, it’s not clear how many Polaroid will actually be selling. A hard cap on production is always good for resellers, and too much supply relative to demand can hurt the market.

Polaroid’s return policy for this specific preorder is not confirmed, so check the terms at checkout before committing to multiple units. Standard preorders sometimes carry different return windows than in stock purchases.

This looks like a great flip with minimal effort required. All three cameras will likely resell for a profit. In a best case scenario, preorders sell out fast and the cameras are immediately relisted on eBay.

Worst case, the preorder run is larger than expected and remains open into September. In this case, sales will likely come in slower and for less profit than we hoped, but we still expect this to be a lucrative flip no matter how things shake out.
