Key Points

  • The boxes retailed for $100 directly from Topps and sold out the same day they dropped

  • Current resale prices range from $175 to $250 on eBay

  • Major website issues during the drop meant only a small percentage of buyers could actually complete purchases

It’s a bittersweet time for WWE fans. John Cena has officially retired, and that means a whole slew of commemorative merch from every company with a license. Topps just dropped the 2025 John Cena Commemorative Collection today and resellers who managed to get through the checkout chaos are already cashing in. Site issues kept a lot of buyers out, but many were able to snag multiple boxes to list for up to double their retail price.

John Cena Commemorative Collection from Topps

Each box contains 25 cards total, including the complete 22-card base set. The other three cards could be parallels, inserts, short prints, memorabilia relics, or autographs. The base set covers Cena’s entire career from his 2002 WWE debut through his 17 championship wins, and ends with a card from his final match.

The chase cards include Famed Foes inserts showing Cena with WWE rivals, Marquee Moves highlighting his signature wrestling techniques, and various parallels. There’s also a super short-printed “Doctor of Thuganomics” card and an ultra-rare NWO “Hollywood” Cena card. Farewell Tour Relics feature memorabilia from a May 24, 2025 Main Event, with regular, jumbo, and autographed jumbo versions available.

Autographs are the real heat here. Five base cards have signed versions representing Cena’s 1st, 2nd, 15th, and 16th WWE World Championships, plus his final match. There are also hard-signed Famed Foes Dual Autographs featuring Cena alongside eight other wrestlers.

The collection went live earlier today, and things got messy fast. Topps’ website hit buyers with major queue issues and glitchy checkout processes. A lot of collectors couldn’t get through, which means the people who did are sitting on limited inventory with serious profit potential.

This isn’t surprising given the timing. Cena’s retirement became official this month, and collectors are hungry for anything tied to his farewell. We saw similar demand with John Cena’s signed action figures at Target, which also sold out immediately and commanded premium prices on the secondary market.

If you managed to cop one during the chaos, you’re looking at $75-$150 profit after eBay’s 13% fees. At the low end of $175, you’re clearing around $52 after fees. At $250, you’re walking away with $117.50 per box. Not bad for a few hours of work.

The smart play right now is to list quickly while demand is hot from collectors who struck out during the drop. Cena retirement memorabilia is riding high with fresh nostalgia, but prices could stabilize once the initial FOMO fades.

Topps John Cena Commemorative for Sale

This is final sale from Topps, meaning no refunds. If you bought to flip and the market crashes, you’re stuck with inventory. The good news is trading cards typically hold value better than most collectibles, especially retirement-themed sets for legendary wrestlers like Cena.

The bigger question is whether demand stays strong or drops off. WWE collectors are passionate, and Cena’s 23-year career gives this set serious nostalgic weight. But if everyone who wanted one already bought, you might see prices soften in a few weeks.

If you copped, you’re eating. The technical issues during the drop created artificial scarcity beyond whatever production limits Topps set, which is working in resellers’ favor. Current margins are solid, and this is definitely worth flipping while the retirement hype is still fresh.
