Crocs is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future with a Classic Clog that’s honestly more detailed than it has any right to be. These just dropped today through Crocs’ webstore and select retailers, and resellers were quick to jump on the opportunity.

Back to the Future hit theaters in July 1985, but October 21st has become “Back to the Future Day” in the franchise. It’s the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to from 1985 to 2015 in Back to the Future Part II. Today is the perfect date to drop Back to the Future merch, with Casio (almost) releasing a commemorative watch on the same day.

Crocs surprise-dropped a new shoe based on the film, with an all-over lightning print referencing the famous clock tower scene. The sole features flame graphics like the DeLorean leaves behind at 88mph. The heel strap mimics the time machine’s exterior with a miniature flux capacitor on the back.

Six Jibbitz charms come included: Marty’s red vest, the modified DeLorean, Biff’s Sports Almanac, the clock tower set to 10:04 PM, the OUTATIME license plate, and a 1955 newspaper. Not one piece of this shoe is wasted—they referenced everything from the hoverboard to the flux capacitor.

Will They Resell?

Back to the Future has three things going for it: massive nostalgia factor across multiple generations, the 40th anniversary milestone, and the fact that it’s tied to one of the most iconic shoe moments in film history with the Nike Air Mags. Anyone who grew up wanting those self-lacing sneakers might just grab these Crocs as the accessible alternative.

We don’t have any confirmed sales yet for these shoes as it’s still quite early. What we can say is that past Crocs collabs have flipped for serious profit, including their crossovers with Shrek and Microsoft (yes that second one is real).

Most resellers have their fingers crossed for a 2X return on investment. At $80 retail, that’s pretty optimistic, but there are plenty of people willing to throw away paychecks on the dumbest shit imaginable.

If you’re a Back to the Future fan or collector, $80 is reasonable for the amount of detail here. These aren’t getting made again—40th anniversary releases are one-time events.

If you’re purely flipping, it’s worth noting that these qualify for 30 day returns and refunds if you buy through Crocs’ website. As of this publication, sizes 6 through 12 are still available, so it’s not too late to get in on this drop
