The first official Nike X Lego set has been revealed
Lego Nike Dunks are available for preorder for $100
Certain Lego sets have flipped for hundreds over MSRP in the past
Lego has been around for decades and penned all sorts of collaborative deals, but there’s one brand they’ve never worked with until now. Nike and Lego announced earlier this week that they would be teaming up for their first ever collaboration, and we’ve already got eyes on the first set. Lego Nike Dunks will be releasing online this summer, and resellers have their eyes on this drop.
If you’re a reseller, you already know how much sneakerheads are willing to pay for their favorite kicks. What you might not know is that Lego sets can be just as popular, and profitable.
So when Lego and Nike confirmed they would be working together for their first ever official sets, we paid attention. The deal was announced last week, and it seems like we’ll be getting an entirely new line of Nike Legos.
For now, the only confirmed set is #43008 Lego Nike Dunk. This features a blue and white Lego Dunk mounted on a sign with the Dunk logo and Lego basketball. Also included is an exclusive “B-Ball” man Lego minifig and swappable Lego laces in different colors.
The shoe and ball contain hidden compartments for storage, and the entire set measures 15 inches wide and 9 inches tall when fully assembled. The 1,180-piece set is available for preorder through Lego’s set right now for $100.
Preorders are expected to ship in July, with customers limited to three sets. Lego offers free shipping for orders over $35, and preorders can be canceled at any time before they ship. Unopened sets can be returned for a full refund within 90 days of delivery.
Good question. This set represents a lucrative crossover between sneakerheads and Lego collectors, so there’s definitely an opportunity here for a flip.
That said, there are some important factors to consider. For one, it’s actually pretty rare for Lego sets to sell out, and the most popular sets will restock reliably until Lego retires the set. This means the profit ceiling is limited, as it’s never that difficult to purchase the set at retail.
The best case scenario is that this set goes under the radar of collectors and sells out when the preorder window closes. Resellers will be able to jump on the opportunity and flip the sets in the short term while hype is strong. Expect prices of around double, possibly triple MSRP.
It’s also worth remembering these sets ship with the exclusive B-Ball Man minifig. If you’re not in the know, minifig collecting is a huge part of the Lego community, with rare minifigs sometimes reselling for more than the set’s MSRP.
We’ve seen resellers buy up sets like the X-Men Mansion or Barad-dûr just for the minifigs. They can then sell the minifigs and set separately for major profits, or simply keep the set for themselves for essentially no cost.
By selling the minifigs and bonus Fell Beast set, reseller could recoup over 50% of the Barad-dûr set’s cost
If things don’t pan out, remember that you can easily cancel your preorder or even return a delivered set for a full refund. This a very low risk flip that’s worth considering. If you’ve got some spare room on your credit card, this might be just what you’re looking for.
Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter for more updates on this set and the rest of the Nike X Lego collection. We’ll be keeping our eyes on both companies’ social feeds, and we recommend you do the same.
