Four new Triple Black putters dropped at Titleist shops on July 26
Prices ranged from $600 to $800
Resellers have flipped them for up to $500 over MSRP
Last week, legendary golf manufacturer Scotty Cameron dropped a new collection of black-on-black-on-black putters. Cutting-edge technology meets slick styling, and it’s enough to get old men across the world out of their chairs and onto eBay. Resellers have been flipping these putters for hundreds of dollars over MSRP all weekend long. Here’s everything you need to know.
Here’s a fact: resellers love golfers. Who else has the incessant need to buy the shiniest, fanciest, newest equipment AND the cash to back it up? And who else is used to forking over thousands for their hobby between gear and clothes?
We’ve made tons of cash in the last few months by flipping golf gear. From bespoke staff bags, and entire Kith drop (with matching golf cart), and even a lawsuit between Costco and Taylormade, golf is an absolute playground for resellers.
And today, we’ve got one more notch for the belt. Scotty Cameron just released four new putters as part of a “Triple Black” collection.
These are a refined riff on classic designs. Rather than getting too space-agey, Scotty Cameron has taken iconic putter profiles, juiced the insides with modern technology, and the wrapped the whole package in a sexy all-black finish.
There are four different Scotty Cameron Triple Black putters:
The Newport 2 and Newport 2 Long Neck feature the most conventional head shapes, along with adjustable head weights for fine-tuning a stroke. This is essentially the same design Tiger first debuted in 1999.
For those in search of a little toe in their putt, there is the Scotty Cameron Santa Fe in Triple Black. These have a similar profile to the Newports but slightly more rounded, and a shaft that protrudes a bit compared to other designs.
Finally, there’s the Scotty Cameron Triple Black Catalina. This head is an extensively remodeled design that builds on the Newport 2 for a new generation of putter profiles.
Altogether, these new Scotty Cameron Triple Black putters cost between $700 and $800 at MSRP. These were not sold online or directly through Scotty Cameron; you needed to buy it through an authorized Titleist dealer near you.
And you needed to be damn quick. These putters were a highly limited product. We have no idea how many were produced, but we do know that most dealers’ allocations were sold well ahead of the release date.
This was a drop that you had to call ahead for, and maybe have a few favors to pull in. Everybody wanted one, and there were definitely not enough to go around.
That sucks for golfers, but it’s great news for resellers. With all these options and the intense hype around the collection, this was one of most profitable flips we’ve seen in the last few months.
For starters, all of the putters from the new Scotty Cameron Triple Black collection are reselling for about $300 to $400 over retail. We’ve seen the most sales for Newport 2s, but the Santa Fe and Catalina designs are also very profitable flips.
Best yet, these flipped fast. There was no need for a long hold; resellers were typically able to turn their orders around in less than 24 hours. Buying one might not have been easy, but selling sure was.
If you’ve been reselling for a minute, this shouldn’t be any surprise. We covered two different Scotty Cameron drops in 2023, the Concept X 7.2 and My Girl putters, and these both flipped for more than double what they retailed for.
Sick of missing out? You’ll have another chance soon, because 2024 Scotty Cameron putters are set to revealed pretty soon. These will be very, very hard to buy, but the potential profits will be incredible. Now might be the time to start dropping cash at your local pro shop to get your name on the list.
