Cinemark has revealed their exclusive popcorn buckets for Alien: Romulus
No prices have been released, the movie is set to release next month
Popular popcorn buckets have flipped for as much as $200
If you’re looking to make some easy money this Summer, keep reading. New popcorn buckets for the upcoming movie “Alien: Romulus” have just been revealed, and the design is an absolute knockout. Previous collectable popcorn buckets have resold for hundreds of dollars in the past, and these are some of coolest we’ve seen yet. Expect these to disappear from theaters fast, and reappear on eBay for five times the price or more. Here’s what you need to know.
Well, it’s July, pretty much smack in the middle of Summer Blockbuster season. There’s all kinds of new movies hitting the theaters, from art-horror darling “Longlegs” to big leaguers like “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
“Alien: Romulus” is slated for an August release, and will be the latest addition to the “Aliens” franchise since 2017’s “Covenant”. Notably, “Romulus” was directed and co-written by Fede Álvarez. Ridley Scott is still involved as a producer, but this will be the first “Aliens” film since 2007 not to be directed by Scott.
We don’t know a whole lot about it, but the story is set shortly after the events of the original 1979 film, featuring a new cast of characters unconnected to the franchise.
Maybe it’ll be a lot of fun, maybe it’ll be an uninspired remake with a regurgitated plot like previous entries. You can reserve tickets for a showing right now.
But before you do, we recommend checking to see if there are any Cinemark locations showing the film near you. Cinemark just revealed their exclusive “Alien: Romulus” popcorn buckets, and they do not disappoint
Reactions on social media range from awe to abject horniness, but pretty much everybody is agreeing that these popcorn buckets are totally killer.
Aside from the teaser tweet, Cinemark hasn’t released additional details on the “Romulus” popcorn bucket. Availability will likely be limited, and we strongly recommend calling theaters close to release and asking for more information.
Based on similar designs, we’re guessing the “Alien: Romulus” popcorn bucket will likely start at $30 minimum, but it may cost up to $50 depending on manufacturing costs. Expect these to be limited, and in very high demand.
You generally don’t need to have a movie ticket to buy collectable popcorn buckets, and theaters will usually allow you to purchase more than one. We can’t say anything for sure because it’s going to come down to individual employees and stock numbers, but it helps to bring friends and not look like an obvious reseller.
Speaking of friends, if you have any working at Cinemark, now is the time to get on their good side. This is definitely a product you’ll want to backdoor (pause).
Now for the fun part. If you haven’t been doing much reselling lately, you might have missed the boat on popcorn buckets. It seems a little weird, but collectable popcorn buckets have absolutely exploded in the last few years, and regularly flip for incredible prices.
We’ve covered a few different examples recently. The first one to really hit the mainstream and kick off the current trend was the Barbie movie Corvette popcorn buckets. These were exclusive to AMC theaters and flipped for over $100 after retailing for $25.
Of course, you’re probably familiar with “Dune: Part II” and the ultra-viral “Duneussy” popcorn buckets. Outwardly designed to look like a gaping sandworm, the internet catapulted them into notoriety thanks to their resemblance to a male sex toy.
And whether people were buying them for their intended purpose or just to make God cry, these were enormously popular with moviegoers. Resellers were regularly flipping them for three times what AMC sold them for.
We can go on. AMC-exclusive “Ghostbusters” Ghost Trap buckets, “Dungeons & Dragons” D20 shaped buckets from AMC, “Inside Out 2″ Memory Orb popcorn buckets that you could only buy from… AMC.
It seems like there’s a bit of a trend here – one that AMC competitor Cinemark is certainly aware of. These “Alien: Romulus” popcorn buckets are one of the most elaborate designs we’ve seen so far, and likely an attempt by Cinemark to establish themselves as a premiere destination for the popcorn connoisseur.
Whether it’s a simple strategy to get asses in seats or some sort of viral loss leader, we don’t really care. What we can tell you is there is a very, very good chance these popcorn buckets will resell.
Start planning now, and be ready to call local Cinemark theaters as we get closer to August 16. Make a map, practice fake voices on the phone, construct some costumes; whatever you need to do, just don’t miss out on this flip.
