Did you know Ariana Grande just dropped a new album? We didn’t, but that’s a big deal to some people. Apparently. Ahead of its release, she also sold a limited number of signed CDs. These all sold out fast, of course, but fans also noticed that some of the signatures are a little different. Certain signed copies are reselling for significantly more than others. Let’s take a look.

Did you know popstars like making money? And did you know selling signed merch is a really, really good way to make money?

Last month, Ariana Grande opened her store and sold a limited number of hand-signed copies of her new album Eternal Sunshine. For $14, her fans had the opportunity to pick up a real signature from Ms. Grande herself (limit 4 per customer).

Okay, nothing too surprising there. Like we said, popstars like selling signed merch, and as far as we can tell these weren’t even autopenned.

That said, there was something interesting about the drop. This wasn’t advertised, but Grande signed the CDs in a variety of ways.

Most of them just feature a simple, shortened “Ari”. Some of them were instead signed with a slightly longer “Ari Grande”, or even “Ariana Grande”.

Naturally, this distinction was noticed by fans. If you were a reseller lucky enough to receive a longform signature, they’re worth significantly more.

But how much more? How much will an Ariana Grande fan pay for her last name?

Well, actually quite a bit. Right now, a signed Ariana Grande Eternal Sunshine CD is usually reselling for about $40, but versions with her full name are closer to $100.

Wow! Is that worth it? Remember, these were only $14, and you were limited to four. Even if you only got standard signatures that comes out to $100 or so in profit, and longer signatures could significantly increase it.

Don’t count on these to restock. Signed merch tends to be a pretty limited thing; an artist can only sign so much before they get a cramp, after all.
