  • Stanley dropped its most collectable tumbler yet in February

  • Chocolate Gold Stanley tumblers were available for $50 exclusively through a raffle

  • Resellers are flipping them for up to $120

Hopefully by now you’ve heard of Stanley. Last month, the company unveiled a new color, possibly their most collectable yet. They were so concerned with resellers and bots that they even used a third-party raffle system to secure the drop. As always, resellers still ended up taking stock. Now eBay is stuffed to the gills with sold listings totaling up to tens of thousands of dollars in profit. Let’s take a look.

Stanley Chocolate Gold Tumblers

Well, it’s time for another Stanley tumbler update. If you’re a casual reader you might not be completely up to date on the Stanley phenomena, but seasoned resellers know exactly what we’re talking about.

Here’s the basics: Stanley is super popular right now. Towards the end of 2023, good marketing met with eager consumers, and a new boom started. The cycle is pretty much the same; Stanley makes a tumbler, people buy it, Stanley makes a tumbler, people buy it.

Does it matter that they already own one? Are reusable 40 ounce tumblers something that people need more than one of? Is this the single most embarrassing item to fight over at Target?

No, no, and maybe! We don’t care though, because Stanley is essentially printing money for resellers.

Last month, Stanley really leaned into the whole scarcity angle and dropped one of their most anticipated products yet: the Stanley Chocolate Gold tumbler.

Stanley Chocolate Gold Tumbler Drop

There’s nothing special here. The construction and design are standard for Stanley’s Quencher H2.0 tumbler. Double vacuum-sealed walls keep drinks hot or cold, and they’re fine products for what they are.

What mattered were the colors. See, this tumbler is brown. No, wait, sorry. Let’s start again.

“This limited-edition Quencher is beautifully packaged in an ornate chocolate box that features nostalgic stripes and gold detail. In a rich ganache powdercoat finish, savor the chocolatier version of our best-selling tumbler.”

Wow, whoever is writing the copy over at Stanley needs a raise, although let’s be serious, it’s probably just ChatGPT.

Anyways, you get the picture right? It’s the same product they’ve been selling for years, just painted in a rarer, uglier colorway.

Chocolate Gold Stanley Tumbler Raffle

And because these tumblers were SO rare and SO desirable and SO ugly, Stanley knew that they had to shake up their release methods. Usually, new tumblers just plop onto their site and sell out in a few minutes, but Stanley was really going hard on the marketing for this.

They needed to stick it to those nasty botters and resellers. The Stanley Chocolate Gold Tumbler was instead sold through a raffle system as a partnership with EQL.

Yes, we’ve gotten to the point where Stanley is partnering with the same company running sneaker launches.

From 6 A.M. to Noon Pacific on February 27, anyone could enter the raffle through Stanley’s site. Winners would be able to buy a tumbler for $50, and losers would feel unbearable shame and FOMO.

And thank God for losers, because without them resellers wouldn’t have a job. After all, without losers who would buy action figures and LEGO sets for triple what they retailed for? Who would plunk down five grand to buy a pair of gold sneakers with the Trump logo on them? And who would buy overpriced tumblers filled with enough sugar water to counteract their Ozempic shots?

Within hours of the raffle closing, eBay was slammed with listings for these tumblers. Right now the Chocolate Gold Stanley Tumbler is reselling for about $90, and eBay has recorded nearly 500 confirmed sales. Early on prices were a bit higher, but it seems like the sheer volume of tumblers on the market is pushing them down.

Stanley Chocolate Gold Tumbler for Sale

Wasn’t the raffle supposed to stop resellers? Listen, if you’re an irate Stanley fan that stumbled across this article, you need to understand something.

Stanley wants you to get scalped for these tumblers. They want you to pay extra to a reseller. They have the option to make as many tumblers as you want, and they don’t. They make a few, run an ad campaign about how rare and special they are, and then laugh when you miss out.

If you don’t like resellers, don’t buy from them. Better yet, don’t buy from companies that sell products like this.

But we don’t think you’ll listen. Thanks for the sales, and if you’re ready to start making money instead of losing it, maybe you should subscribe to our newsletter. Flips like this are very common, and resellers have already made thousands of dollars in easy profit this year.
