Tekken 8 is set to launch in January
Collector’s Editions for Tekken 8 cost $300 and are still in stock
Some have resold for $400+
It’s almost time for a new Tekken game. While the demo is out now for everyone, we’ll have to wait until 2024 to get our hands on the full game. Ahead of its release, Tekken 8 has opened preorders for Collector’s Editions. While fighting games aren’t always the most popular option for resellers, this one is shaping up to be pretty profitable. We’ve already seen several aftermarket sales for Collector’s Editions in December.
Ready to get bloody? Tekken 8 is set to launch on January 26, and fans are pumped. It’s been several years since the release of Tekken 7, and although the game has received consistent support, fans are ready for a new title.
The demo version for Tekken 8 launched last week for PlayStations, and Xbox and PC players were able to test out the game starting on the 21st.
Like most AAA developments, it’s getting a Collector’s Edition. For hardcore fans, buying a Tekken 8 Premium Collector’s Edition will nab you a copy of the game and premium pass to its DLC, an Electrified Jin Figurine, 8 collectible cards, Leroy Smith metal ring, Arcade Token, and a SteelBook.
The Tekken 8 Collector’s Edition costs $300. Bandai Namco has really been running up the check lately with special versions of their games; Armored Core 6 shipped with two different Collector’s Editions, including the ultra-exclusive Premium Edition for $450.
Fans of the game will have to decide for themselves if this is worth spending the money on. The Electrified Jin figurine is extremely cool though, and features light-up wings and base.
Preorders for Tekken 8 Collector’s Editions are open now exclusively through Bandai Namco’s site. Copies are expected to start shipping with the game’s launch in January.
Even though preorders for Tekken 8 Collector’s Editions have not sold out yet, we’ve seen a few aftermarket sales.
Since November, the average resale price for a Tekken 8 Collector’s Edition has been around $400. Keep in mind that it’s still early. Once all the available copies have sold out we may see a rise in price for these.
For a game to resell before it’s even sold out is a pretty good sign. Video game collector’s editions have had a mixed reputation lately among resellers. Some see them as excessively risky and take too long to sell.
But if you look at some of the games we’ve covered recently, you can see there’s an incredible amount of potential profit to be made. After Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch in August, Collector’s Editions for the game rose to over $2,000 per copy, netting resellers over $1,700 in profit per copy.
Lies of P and Armored Core 6 were both successful as well. These were all extremely well reviewed games, which helps enormously with resale value. Reselling video game collector’s editions tends to be a gamble on how well the game is received, with both the risk and potential gain quite large.
