Will the Rimowa X Tiffany Drop Be Profitable For Resellers?

RIMOWA has announced a new collaboration with the jewelry icon Tiffany & Co. Three different items will be dropping on September 26 for eyebrow-raising prices. Past RIMOWA collabs have been very profitable for resellers, so the upcoming drop is on our radar. Will it flop? Or will it surge in value? Let’s take a look at just what is being sold.

What's in the RIMOWA Tiffany Collection?

Well, it’s time for another RIMOWA collab. The German luggage manufacturer has made numerous crossovers with huge brands like Supreme, OFF-WHITE, and even an exclusive Porsche-badged hardcase.

Now they’re working with Tiffany & Co. You know, the nearly 200 year old diamond and jewelry supplier from New York? RIMOWA likes to worth with fairly upscale brands, and it seems like they may have snagged a big one for this drop.

The RIMOWA X Tiffany collection includes three different items. They are a large wheeled luggage carrier, a small jewelry hardcase, and an even smaller personal jewel case. Let’s take a look at the specifics:

RIMOWA X Tiffany Rock-Cut Luggage Carrier

It wouldn’t be a RIMOWA collection without a big-ass trunk to haul your luggage around in. A new and proprietary brushing technique has been applied to the metal to give it the appearance of a diamond. Tiffany, diamonds, get it? The wheels, handle, and other accents are in Tiffany Blue.

The RIMOWA X Tiffany Luggage Carrier will sell for around $3,500.

RIMOWA X Tiffany Jewelry Case

For the traveler that absolutely needs to stuff as much jewelry in their bag as possible. This hardcase has multiple sections, a mirror, and a TSA lock (smart). It features the same unique aluminum finish as the luggage carrier, with Tiffany Blue on the interior and accents.

The RIMOWA X Tiffany Jewelry case will sell for $4,825.

RIMOWA X Tiffany Jewelry Personal

These are the smallest pieces from the collection, and they are also made from a different material. Instead of the multifaceted aluminum on the carrier and hardcase, these personals are made from a Tiffany Blue polycarbonate, along with blue leather straps.

The RIMOWA X Tiffany Jewelry Personal will sell for $2,250.

If all these diamonds, metal, and eye-gouging prices are getting you excited, then you’ll be pleased to hear this sale is right around the corner. All the items from the RIMOWA X Tiffany collaboration will be available for sale on Tuesday, September 26.

For New Yorkers or those in the area, you can buy these items directly from the Tiffany flagship store in NYC, starting at 11 A.M. Additionally, RIMOWA has said that they will “have limited units available in select retail stores worldwide”.

And for the rest of us, the RIMOWA X Tiffany collection will be available to purchase online on the 26th. Buyers both in-person and online will be limited to one purchase per item, meaning you can buy all three items from the collection, but you won’t be able to buy more than one of each. All sales are final as well.

Will the RIMOWA X Tiffany Collection Resell?

Alright, you have the facts, now it’s time to speculate. These products are cool, but this isn’t a fashion blog. We’re paying attention to this collection because it has the potential to resell, so let’s talk turkey.

For one, RIMOWA has a good track record when it comes to reselling. Their previous collaborations with Supreme and OFF-WHITE have been quite profitable. These both retailed at a lower price point than the Tiffany collab, but would end up flipping for several hundred over their retail, or even up to a thousand.

The RIMOWA Porsche hardcase was also profitable. It retailed for around $2,400, and would regularly resell past $3,500. It’s also worth noting that these Porsche cases were limited to 911 total units, and we’ve yet to hear any production numbers for the Tiffany collection.

One thing we can say about pretty much all RIMOWA collabs is that they tend to start off hot, and then quickly drop off. Most of them will at least keep their retail value, but after the first week or so, most of the hype seems to drop off along with their prices.

The RIMOWA X Tiffany drop is also not super-exclusive. It would be great if this was only being sold in-stores, especially if it was exclusive to Tiffany’s flagship in NYC. Instead, the collection will be available worldwide on launch day. This isn’t a dealbreaker for the collection’s resell value, but it is a ding.

If you want our advice, we recommend focusing on the luggage carrier over the other items from the collection. RIMOWA’s identity is centered around these kinds of large cases, and historically these items are also the most profitable parts of their collections. They also tend to hold their value the best. If you want to take a shot at the smaller cases, go ahead, but we think the big boy is the safest bet.

Overall, this collection looks good. If you manage to buy anything from it, you can expect to resell it for more than you paid. Just don’t hold onto it for years and hope that it will skyrocket in value – RIMOWA will have put out ten more collaborations by the time you’re ready to sell.
