Key Points

  • This is the second time these decks have been released, with an unknown but likely very limited number being produced

  • Decks were initially sold for $150, but they were bumped up to $200 after a few hours

  • After selling out, these became very popular to resell, with aftermarket prices rising past $500

Early 2022 would see the release of this collaborative skate deck from Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville, dubbed the Johnny-O. The deck features a meld of the two’s faces slapped on an extremely 90s pink and pastel background. It’s unclear just how many boards were made, but it’s likely that the number is quite small. Each deck is signed by both Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville, so its unlikely more than a few hundred were made. While Steve-O has done autographed decks in the past, Johnny Knoxville is notoriously hesitant to put his signature on anything, adding to the value.

What is the Johnny-O Skateboard

These decks are part of collaboration between Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville. Both are well known for their work on the iconic Jackass franchise. In the years following their Jackass fame, both actors have occasionally created various pieces of merchandise referencing the franchise, with these decks being the latest in a long line.

Originally debuting in April of 2022, the boards sold through Steve-O’s online shop. Announced and sold the same day for an initial price of $150, the purchase link was updated to a $200 price tag. This did little to deter buyers, and the boards would sell out at the higher price.

The decks’ release coincided with the release of Jackass Forever on Blu-Ray. Many fans were quick to note that this was one of the few pieces of Jackass merch signed by Johnny Knoxville. While Steve-O’s signature is a bit more common, Knoxville is genuinely hesitant to put his autograph on anything, so the deck represented a bit of a rare opportunity.

Why did the Johnny-O Skateboard resell

The reason behind the decks’ popularity for resellers is the extreme rarity. Very few boards were made, and they were only released through Steve-O’s website. Additionally, it seems the marketing for the boards was kept fairly lowkey. It’s possible the team behind the board feared that if word got out about the limited production, boards would be bought up by people outside the fandom.

Searching through the Jackass subreddit, there are quite a few posts from people claiming to have purchased a board directly from the Steve-O website. If news about the board had circulated, it’s likely that the majority of boards would have been purchased by resellers.

While aftermarket sales were somewhat slow, this isn’t that surprising for such a niche item. Listings on online marketplaces like eBay and Facebook Marketplace show a sale or two each month, and they have continued to sell over retail.

This suggests two things:

First, the majority of these boards were bought by collectors, not resellers. This is actually very good news for resellers, as it means less competition. Enthusiasts and collectors generally don’t want to sell their items, so resellers are able to charge higher prices to buyers since there are very few options for them to buy.

Second, it implies that these decks are a very good item to resell. For interest to be so strong for a niche and lowkey product is a good sign. Resellers typically thrive in environments with very dedicated fanbases, which is exactly who you find buying these decks.

We recommend keeping an eye on these decks in the future. While it’s a pretty niche item, clearly there is a market for it and people are willing to pay a high price.
