2024 Topps Chrome Sapphire Baseball cards just launched
Boxes were $380, cases of 10 boxes were $3800
Resellers are flipping them for around double
Topps is closing out the year with a new release for diehard collectors. Chrome Baseball Sapphire Editions dropped online earlier this week. Highly limited, expensive, and ultra-collectable, this set was a reseller’s dream. It didn’t take long for boxes to start selling out, and now we’re seeing them reappear on eBay for double the original retail prices.
If you don’t know much about cards, you might have missed this release. Don’t worry though, you don’t need to be a collector or even particularly knowledgeable to make a killing flipping these cards.
Let’s explain. On December 10, Topps released their highly awaited 2024 Chrome Sapphire Baseball base set. This featured 350 cards with a particular emphasis on the hottest rookies, although well-established players like Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani are included as well.
Collectors were excited to hunt for rare parallels, including coveted Paparadscha Sapphires and Superfractor cards for select players.
Chrome Sapphire Baseball packs include four cards, and each Hobby box contains eight packs. Every box ships with at least one Sapphire Exclusive autograph card, so collectors know they’ll be getting something good no matter what.
Topps sold these in two ways. Individual Chrome Sapphire Hobby boxes were available for $380, but they also sold cases of 10 Hobby boxes for $3800.
Are you doing the math? With four cards per pack, eight packs per box, and ten boxes per case, collectors are paying around $12 per card.
And if we know anything about card collectors, they won’t be stopping there. After all, if you’re willing to plunk down a few grand on case of cards, well, what’s a few more?
Right now, 2024 Topps Chrome Sapphire Hobby boxes are reselling for around $640 at a time, nearly double what they retailed for. Case sales are a little rarer, but we’ve seen them flipping for a similar price of $6,400.
Resellers that managed to snag one are padding their bank account with thousands of dollars in time for the holidays. This is a flip that nearly anyone could have taken advantage of, as long as they had a credit card and an internet connection.
