  • 300 copies of a Tom DeLonge Signature “Blackout” Guitar sold for $1,500

  • Resellers have flipped them for upwards of $2,500

  • The guitars are not expected to ship until April

Last week, the musician Tom DeLonge had a special surprise for his fans. A limited number of special “Blackout” Fender Stratocasters went up for sale. They didn’t last long though, and all of the guitars were sold out in under a minute. Now resellers are making a tidy profit by flipping them to folks who missed out.

To The Stars, Tom DeLonge, and a $1,500 Strat

If you were never big into pop punk, you might not be sure who Tom DeLonge is. Hopefully you at least recognize the name.

Tom DeLonge is the lead guitarist and co-vocalist for Blink 182. He laid down guitar tracks for all of the bands major records during their heyday, and resumed touring with them (twice) in 2009 (and 2021).

Like most musicians, DeLonge likes making money. Between making music with Blink 182 and Angels & Airwaves, he also founded the media company To The Stars, which produces a wide variety of music, movies, and other media.

They also sell merch. What we’re looking at today is a very special, very limited piece of merch endorsed and designed by Tom DeLonge: a Fender Stratocaster Blackout.

True to its name, this a very black strat. Satin black body, glossy black pickguard, and a black “Invader” humbucker are attached to a maple neck and headstock. Rosewood makes up the fingerboard, and it’s built with medium jumbo frets for optimal shreddage.

Tom DeLonge Signed Guitar

The only color to be found is on the volume knob, which is painted “To The Stars Signature Red”.

One of the most notable pieces of the guitar is on its neckplate. It’s a little hard to tell because it’s all black on black, but DeLonge’s signature has actually been engraved in the metal.

Speaking of which, these guitars also ship with a certificate of authenticity that’s been signed by Tom DeLonge. Not quite as cool as his signature on the guitar itself, but almost as cool.

Tom DeLonge Blackout guitars cost $1,500, and were limited to just 300 total units. As you might imagine with such a limited product and a big name attached, these were very popular, and sold out very fast.

These guitars went up for sale on Black Friday. And while the $1,500 price tag doesn’t seem like much of deal, just wait to see what they go for now.

After they sold out, Tom DeLonge Blackout Guitars have started to resell for upwards of $2,500. It’s still early and sales are few, but it’s a good sign for what these could be worth in the future.

And the future is pretty important for these guitars, because they’re not expected to ship until April. We’ll be keeping our eyes on the market for them in the meantime, but for the resellers that managed to snag one at retail, this was an opportunity to make $1,000 or more doing basically nothing.
