Key Points

  • “Fortnight” is the lead single from Taylor Swift’s new album

  • Limited edition CDs sold for $2

  • Resellers have flipped them for up to $20 at a time

Time for more T Swift. By now, you’ve probably heard about Taylor’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department”. Both her label and resellers have been making an absolute killing by selling CDs and vinyl to her fans, and now she’s done us one more favor with an additional release. Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s song “Fortnight” was released as a single on CD in limited numbers. After they sold out, resellers have been flipping them for five to ten times what they retailed for. It’s not glamorous, but it is easy and profitable. Let’s take a look.

Have you seen the memes about Taylor Swift being a secret gamer? Early liner notes for “The Tortured Poets Department” included the terms “Tarnished” and “talismans”, leading some people to believe she was referencing the video game Elden Ring.

Even further back, a bizarre collection of 4chan screencaps were strung together to imply Taylor was an avid /b/ poster in the early 2010s.

And now she’s produced a song with the well-known COD streamer and part-time rapper Post Malone. The song’s name? “Fortnight”.

Could it be any more obvious? Taylor Swift is notorious for selling multiple variants of her music to maximize profits, but it seems like we finally know why: she needs the money for V-Bucks!

“Fortnight” featured as the album’s lead single. Clearly Taylor Swift is very proud of her work with Post Malone. The two have apparently been friendly since 2018, and Malone even picked up a Chiefs tattoo in 2023 after losing a match of beer pong to Travis Kelce.

This collaboration is just one small part of the huge frenzy around “The Tortured Poets Department”. The album officially dropped yesterday, and just two hours after its release an additional 15 songs were released as part of “The Anthology”, essentially doubling the length of the album.

Not like Taylor Swift fans need any encouragement to buy her music. We’ve written about her previous releases several times already, including an article on TTPD’s signed CD and vinyl releases.

Taylor Swift Fortnite CDs Resell

What you need to know is that pretty much anything limited sells out, and resells. These Fortnight CDs were limited. They first went up for sale on April 18 at 11 A.M. Pacific. They were $2, and the sale was expected to last until 6 P.M, or until everything sold out.

They lasted under two hours. While that might sound impressive, it’s nowhere near a record the fastest sellout of Taylor Merch. And while we’re calling them limited, we’re guessing she sold tens of thousands of them in that time, probably more.

What’s the result? Money. Money for her, but more importantly, money for us. Right now, Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” CDs are reselling for about $15 to $20 at a time. Not crazy, no, but remember that they retailed for just $2.

Taylor Swift Fortnight CD for Sale

Customers were limited to four per order. If you were ready when these CDs went up for sale and managed to put in multiple orders, you could have made several hundred dollars in profit in one day.

We think that’s pretty good. There’s just something about Taylor Swift fans and CDs. While most fans prefer to collect vinyl, hers seem to be more interested in the smaller stuff. You can check out our articles on her “Midnights” release and “1989: Taylor’s Version” for more examples.
