Pokemon TCG Black Bolt & White Flare will be the first dual sets released in English
There will be over 300 cards to collect, including a new rarity type – “BWR”
Pokemon Center just dropped ETBs for both, and the set is selling for $300+
The Pokemon TCG hype train shows no signs of slowing down. Pokemon Black Bolt and White Flare will be released in the US on July 18th. They will be the first ever dual sets printed in English, and introduce multiple innovations to make them extra special for collectors (and resellers). While dual sets like these have been deployed in Japan, this release will be the first of its kind in over 10 years.
Pokemon Black Bolt and White Flare will essentially be the Pokemon 151 version of the Unova Region, home to all 156 Generation 5 Pokemon. One of the most exciting aspects of the dual sets is that each individual ‘mon will have its own full art illustration rare, something never before done in Pokemon TCG sets.
Another major innovation will be the debut of “BWR” rares. These chase cards will be monochromatic full art secret rares.
While the full card list has not been released yet, and probably won’t until the Japanese version releases closer to June 6th, early visuals of the set look AWESOME. Check out these special illustration rares of the Gen 5 starters, and the first revealed BWR rares featuring Unova legendary Pokemon Zekrom in black, Reshiram in white, and Victini in red; courtesy of PokeBeach forum.
Note that only the Pokemon Center Exclusive ETBs have been available for preorder so far, and no eBay completed sales have been made for other products in this set. Expect preorders at major retailers to begin dropping randomly in the coming days and weeks.

Pokemon TCG products have been some of the most consistent resale items of the year. With recent expansions Prismatic Evolutions and Destined Rivals moving very well at double MSRP, there’s no reason to expect the market to slow down now, especially with the innovations coming to life in Black Bolt and White Flare.
