This year marks the 85th anniversary of Disney’s Pinocchio
Limited Edition Blue Fairy Dolls were sold alongside other anniversary merch
The dolls are flipping for over $250 after retailing for $150
Yesterday morning, Disney sold a limited number of dolls based on the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio. These are part of the film’s 85th Anniversary, and similar to other significant anniversary dolls Disney has been selling over the last few months. As expected, they were enormously popular with collectors – and resellers. These dolls are flipping for $100 or more over retail. Let’s take a look.
It’s a familiar story. Disney makes a movie, they spend a few decades making re-releases and milking it for merch. Look forward to your great-grandkids buying commemorative Elsa dolls in the future.
If you didn’t know, Disney’s Pinocchio turned 85 this year. The original story is of course much older, but the animated version is what everyone’s familiar with. To celebrate and make some cash, Disney spun up a Pinocchio 85th Anniversary collection.
And one item in particular caught our eyes: Limited Edition Blue Fairy dolls. Based on the character from the film, these dolls wear a delicate gown and see-through cape, with translucent plastic wings sprouting from the back.
Pinocchio 85th Anniversary Blue Fairy dolls were limited to just 3,000 units and sold for $150 through Disney’s site. The release was highly contested, and the available stock sold out within minutes of the release date.
These dolls are part of a larger anniversary celebration Disney has been holding in 2025. Two weeks ago we covered their 75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls, and now Disney is helping out resellers once again.
As you might expect, anything popular with collectors is popular with resellers too. With only 3,000 of these dolls to go around, we expected to see some healthy competition.
Right now, Pinocchio 85th Anniversary Blue Fairy dolls are reselling for over $250 at a time. Unfortunately, they were limited to one per customer so we couldn’t get too crazy, but that still represents profits of around $100 for a single flip.
We’d take that. This drop went very similarly to the previously mentioned Cinderella dolls, and they’re proving just as profitable.
So next time you hear someone whining about egg prices or inflation or how they can’t buy a home, remember there are thousands of adults out there paying $100 over MSRP for a doll. It might time to ask yourself why you aren’t the one selling it to them.
