75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls dropped today for $150
Early sales came in for more than $300
Things slowed down and they’re now flipping for under $250
Earlier today, Disney released a new collection celebrating the 75th anniversary of their 1950 animated film “Cinderella”. New merch, totes, clothes, and toys were available, alongside limited edition 75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls. These were very popular with collectors, and the available stock flew off virtual shelves in minutes. Now resellers are listing their stock on eBay for inflated prices, and the sales are already rolling in. Let’s take a look.
While February 15 will mark 75 years since the release of Disney’s “Cinderella”, the folk tale is much, much older. The Cinderella name first appeared in a French version of the story published in 1697, but the tale has its origins as far back as the first century BC in Ancient Greece.
In any case, you’re probably well familiar with it already. Peasant girl, evil stepmother, glass slipper, nice prince. It’s a staple of Disney’s classic collection, and has been exported to every cultural market in the world; re-released and re-remastered countless times.
And as we all know, the merch is where you make the real money. To celebrate Disney Cinderella’s 75th anniversary, the company has rolled out an extensive collection online and in stores. Resellers are primarily interested in the limited edition 75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls.
Standing at 17″ and finished with extensive details, this is the ideal collector’s piece. These dolls have everything you’d expect, including an attachable glass slipper and certificate of authenticity.
Disney’s 75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls were sold for $150 on February 11 through the Disney Store. The collection was limited to 5,230 dolls, and is not expected to restock. All of the available dolls sold out fast, to no one’s surprise.
Ahead of their release, eBay was full of presale listings for this collection. Most sellers were asking (and receiving) upwards of $300 per doll, which was a great sign.
After they launched, 75th Anniversary Cinderella dolls began reselling for around $250 to $300, representing profits of $100 to $150 at a time. These were limited to two per customer, so you could stack up some decent profits with minimal effort.
But things began slowing down pretty quickly. Average sale prices have dropped under $250 and sales volume is definitely slowing down. We’re not sure why, but it could be that ratio of collectors to resellers on this drop was too slow, and the market was saturated with sellers.
In any case, it goes to show that buying fast and selling early is usually the safest option. While it’s possible that holding for a bit can be more lucrative, locking in your profits early minimizes risk and is always the smart move.
