Fans at certain home games receive special One Piece College Basketball cards, along with some other swag
The Luffy College Basketball card sells for hundreds of dollars
Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Illinois Fighting Illini, Gonzaga Bulldogs, St Johns Red Storm, and Houston Cougars are hosting the promo during home games
Updated January 31
Here’s a great opportunity for any fan of college basketball to get paid to attend games. The NCAA and One Piece have partnered for a college basketball promotion running across fifteen games over the next month. Fans in attendance will receive unique One Piece posters, shirts, and an extremely valuable One Piece Luffy college basketball card. This is worth the effort.
The promotion kicked off last week at Rutgers, and now Washington college basketball fans have the opportunity to join the fun. Tonight is the fourth stop on One Piece’s college basketball US Tour, with Gonzaga taking on Saint Mary’s at home. Tipoff is at 7:30 PM Pacific.
This game features a special half time show, so all fans have a chance to receive a special Gonzaga X One Piece College Basketball shirt. Ticketed student section attendees are guaranteed to get t-shirts and all fans can grab a special poster.
But the real money is in those One Piece College Basketball trading cards. Every single person who walks into any of these 15 games is eligible to claim limited-edition Monkey D. Luffy card while supplies last. These cards feature custom artwork for the college basketball collaboration and won’t be available anywhere else.
While the One Piece TCG has been mostly ignored by resellers, there are plenty of collectors buying and selling cards, and it seems like they have a special interest in sports collabs. Their 2025 crossover with the LA Dodgers generated tons of profit for resellers, and it’s looking like this will be a repeat of a very successful playbook.
By now, we’re guessing you’ve hear all about these cards. From teams of dedicated resellers working together to secure hundreds of cards at a single game to an actual burglary at Rutgers targeting the cards, this promotion has broken containment.
Tonight is the last One Piece college basketball game until February 4, and Gonzaga fans’ last chance to get a card for the next two weeks.
However, things have changed since the promotion started. If you attended the game last week, be prepared for a very different landscape. Security has begun cracking down hard on resellers, and is not hesitating to eject fans that are making a nuisance attempting to hustle for cards.
The schools are left to decide for themselves how they want to run the promotion. Previously, you could get a One Piece College Basketball card at the front gate after scanning in your ticket, but Rutgers chose to adopt a voucher system with separate distribution points, as well as opening two hours early to handle the pandemonium. Gonzaga may do the same.
And speaking of Rutgers, we weren’t joking about that burglary. After Tuesday’s game, someone broke into Jersey Mike’s Arena and stole an undisclosed number of cards. This incident made national news, but One Piece or the NCAA has yet to issue a statement. Still, expect heightened security, and don’t get any funny ideas.
You need a ticket to any of the 15 participating games across these five schools:
All attendees get a poster featuring their home team’s custom One Piece design plus the promo card. Games with halftime shows offer additional merch opportunities through t-shirt tosses.
These cards are free with game admission, with prices varying wildly depending on the matchup and seats. If you can attend multiple games, you’re looking at potentially $1,000+ in card value from just three visits based on current resale prices.
Priority should go to games near you, but if you’re within driving distance of any participating school, it’s worth the trip. Cards have predictably come down in price thanks to the added supply, but we’re still talking about sales in the $300 to $500 range. If you consider that getting multiple cards in one outing is possible, ask yourself if this is an opportunity you can afford to skip.
Of course, securing multiple cards is nowhere near as easy as it was for the first game. According to reports, these games are swarmed by hustlers and resellers that are trying to buy and sell cards the whole time. Don’t let anyone buy yours for less than they’re worth.
Additionally, the concourses outside stadiums are mobbed by folks waiting after the games to try and buy or sell cards. You might not even need a ticket to get in on this flip.
The One Piece College Basketball collaboration runs for a little over a month through January 23 to March 4. Only home games from the sponsored teams feature giveaways.
This is a full send for resellers in the area. If you’re already a college basketball fan with tickets to any of these games, put effort into securing as much merch from the giveaways as you can. This might be your only opportunity to actually profit from attending a game.
And if you’re not? This is a great time to start rooting for the home team. With the prices we’re seeing from these cards, One Piece’s NCAA collaboration might make you a fan for life. Don’t sleep on this opportunity.
