Signed “Something Beautiful” CDs were sold for $15 online
After they sold out, resellers flipped them for $200 to $300
Prices have since come down to around $100
Ahead of her album release in May, Miley Cyrus has dropped a limited number of signed CD versions of “Something Beautiful.” As you can probably guess, her fans jumped on the opportunity and all the available stock sold out in minutes. Resellers were there every step of the way, and we’ve seen the CDs flip for tidy profits. Astoundingly, some of these have sold for as much as $300, just around 20 times what they retailed for. Let’s take a look.
Back to popstars. As we all know, if someone was popular in 2015 they’re probably still pumping out records in 2025. That’s certainly true for Miley Cyrus, whose ninth studio album “Something Beautiful” is set for release on May 30.
Along with the music, an accompanying film has been produced and schedule to premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. The trailer bills it as “a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy” and “one of a kind pop opera”, and definitely not an idea cribbed from Taylor Swift’s ultra-profitable Eras Tour Film.
All the pendulums are swinging; the singles released, tour dates lined up, and now all that’s left is wait until release day.
But you can always make some money in the meantime. In late March, Miley Cyrus released a limited number of signed “Something Beautiful” copies on CD and vinyl for $15 and $35 respectively.
Signed vinyl is nothing new of course and we’ve covered plenty of examples in the past, but over the last few years we’ve seen a curious uptick in interest for collectable CDs.
Taylor Swift is the obvious example, with countless variants for her 1989: Taylor’s Version release flipping for a profit, but Nicki Minaj, Elton John, and Charlie XCX have all jumped on the latest trend.
If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for Miley. All of the signed CDs and vinyl sold out near-instantly, and you can bet that a significant portion of those sales went to resellers.
And what’s really remarkable were the prices, at least early on. When these first dropped on in late March, we saw a flood of sales for upwards of $200. These prices would carry on through mid-April.
Things have definitely slowed down in the last few weeks, with the average sale clocking in around $100. Still, that’s a quick $80+ in profit if you sold late, and an almost unbelievable $280 for those that made the flip early.
We’ll take a 2000% profit margin any day of the week. If that’s good enough for you, congrats, because you’re on the right website. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter and stay updated on everything else that’s worth flipping for a profit.
