Key Points

  • Retail price was $429 directly from Ray-Ban and Meta

  • Limited to 7,500 units globally with transparent frames

  • Currently reselling for around $750 on eBay

Ray-Ban and Meta dropped their transparent Wayfarer Limited Edition smart glasses in late September with just 7,500 units worldwide. These are now flipping for around $750 on eBay, representing solid 75% returns for resellers who secured pairs at the $429 retail price.

The transparent edition put Ray-Ban Meta’s tech on full display, letting you see the internal chips, sensors, and circuitry through the clear frame material. This aesthetic borrowed from the transparent tech trend popularized by devices like the Nothing Phone and classic see-through GameBoys.

These glasses packed Gen 2 improvements including doubled battery life (8 hours vs 4 hours), enhanced 12MP camera with 3K video recording, and upgraded Meta AI capabilities. The Transitions Gen-S lenses automatically shift from clear to a rich ruby when exposed to sunlight.

The limited 7,500-unit production run was announced at Meta’s Connect Conference, positioning these as a showcase piece for the company’s latest smart glasses technology.

Current eBay activity shows these consistently hitting around $750, representing strong 75% markups over retail. The Ferrari Scuderia edition that dropped earlier this year saw similar performance, with pairs originally retailing for $449 eventually reaching $800-$1,200 on resale platforms. The Coperni collaboration glasses also commanded significant premiums among fashion-conscious buyers.

The transparent edition is attracting both tech enthusiasts who appreciate the see-through design and collectors drawn to the limited production run. The consistent demand is holding prices in the $750 range, with outlier sales reaching beyond the $1,000 mark.

The transparent design created genuine visual appeal beyond just limited quantities, giving buyers a unique aesthetic they couldn’t get elsewhere. The 7,500 global unit limit was tight enough to create real scarcity without being so restrictive that it killed mainstream interest.

The $750 resell price puts these in line with Ray-Ban Meta’s track record of successful limited releases, and its a clear indicator that Ray-Ban Meta limited editions consistently deliver for resellers who can secure retail inventory.

Looking Forward

For resellers still holding these glasses, the current $750 range appears sustainable given the consistent demand. These could potentially appreciate further as the 7,500 unit count becomes more apparent in the market.

And if you missed these, you should know that Meta’s all set to launch their next major smart glasses innovation. The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses promise to add visual overlays and neural interface capabilities, potentially revolutionizing the category beyond today’s camera-and-audio-focused models.
