Lilo & Stitch Collectable Spam Cans Resell for Big Profits

While we’re used to seeing something more aesthetic ahead of big movie releases, like this Darth Vader replica helmet for the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith movie, we all know that profit is profit. Hormel and Disney have linked arms to create a uniquely Hawaiian tie-in for Lilo & Stitch: limited edition Spam.

These limited edition food cans retail at $4 and come in 3 variants. Packs of 3, including one of each variant, are selling on eBay for about $30.

These collectible Spam cans featuring our favorite fuzzy alien have just been discovered at major retailers like Walmart and local retailers in Hawaii. They officially released on April 30th, but Spam enthusiasts had early access at Spam Jam the previous weekend.

For those of you that are uncultured, the Waikiki Spam Jam is a yearly festival that takes place on Oahu celebrating the processed meat. It’s actually a pretty big deal in Hawaii.

There were an estimated 50,000 attendees over the weekend for the free festival and dozens of vendors with creative takes on the food. Spam musubi, Spam steak,  Spam Spam Spam Spam Bacon and Spam, even Spam gelato are served for Spam lovers. Here’s a list of over 100 spam recipes if you want to give it a try; you’ll find it most commonly used in Hawaiian and Asian-fusion cuisine.

On May 5, Hormel released a new ad showcasing the limited edition Spam. Hopefully the new awareness will lead to a spike in sales at grocery stores and eBay.

Box office predictions for the live action Lilo and Stitch remake are also quite high considering the Memorial Day weekend release. It’ll be competing with the latest sequel of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, releasing that same weekend, but projections give Lilo & Stitch the edge by a margin of $120 million to $80 million earned opening weekend.

We’d recommend going hunting sooner rather than later, and monitoring eBay sales as we get closer to the holiday weekend to really gauge the market on these collectible food cans. The original movie is considered nothing short of a Disney classic, so don’t sleep on these just because they’re out of the ordinary.
