Key Points

  • After over a decade, Channel Orange gets its first official vinyl pressing

  • Fans have been buying and selling bootleg versions for years

  • The two-disc LP is available right now for $69

Good news, Frank Ocean fans. After nearly thirteen years, an official vinyl pressing of “Channel Orange” is up for sale. These are highly coveted among Ocean’s fans, with many different bootlegs of varying quality have been pressed, sold, and resold in the last decade. We’re entering a new era of old music, and it’s looking pretty good. With the official vinyl finally being released, many resellers are anticipating this vinyl will be a profitable flip for anyone that misses out. Let’s take a look.

Channel Orange Official Vinyl Release

So what’s the big deal? Well, back in 2012, Frank Ocean released his debut album “Channel Orange”. With features from Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, and Andre 3000, “Channel Orange” would quickly rocket up the charts and become the foundational record of Ocean’s meteoric career.

It would eventually be followed up with the critically-acclaimed “Blonde” after years of behind-the-scenes squabbling with Def Jam.

And while “Blonde” got a vinyl pressing shortly after its release, “Channel Orange” never did. It became a bit of sticky issue for Ocean over the years, with him stating that an official “Channel Orange” vinyl was in the works back in 2019.

Now that promise has been fulfilled. Earlier this week, “Channel Orange” was finally released as an official vinyl record. Up until now, fans had to make do with bootlegs of varying quality. The official “Channel Orange” vinyl is available for sale from Frank Ocean’s webstore for $69.

Channel Orange Vinyl Official Details

These are pressed as a two-disc LP with a special jacket. Ocean’s website states that you should expect 4-6 weeks for them to ship, meaning they’ll likely hit fans’ mailboxes close to the album’s 13th anniversary on July 10.

Will Channel Orange Vinyl Resell

That’s a good question. Resellers are keenly interested in this official pressing, with many loading up on “Channel Orange” vinyl records. As of this publication, the records are still in stock and will likely remain available for some time.

It’s clear that Frank Ocean didn’t intend these as some sort of ultra-rare collectible, but is instead fulfilling a longstanding pledge to get “Channel Orange” vinyl into the hands of fans that have been asking for it. So it’s unlikely we’ll see a major market emerge for them any time soon.

What we can say is that Frank Ocean vinyl can be quite profitable. While “Blonde” received an official vinyl pressing years ago, the records ended up being fairly scarce and continue to resell for decent profits even after several represses.

Frank Ocean Blonde Vinyl for Sale

If he sticks to his previous patterns of vinyl releases, it’s likely that this will be the only major “Channel Orange” pressing for some time. Fans that miss out won’t have the opportunity to buy one in the future, which gives resellers an opportunity to make a profit.

Obviously, this is all speculative. We don’t know the stock numbers for this vinyl, and we don’t know if they’ll press more. We don’t know if other variants are planned.

To put it short, there’s some risk here. You’d likely need to hold your record(s) for a few months, and there’s a real chance they don’t flip. As always, Do Your Own Research, Make Up Your Own Mind, Spend Your Own Money. And let us know if you end up making a profit.
