AMC and Regal are selling Galactus popcorn buckets for $80
“Fantastic Four” opens tomorrow, but the buckets are available now
They’re already reselling for ~$130
It’s summer, and that means a new wave of capeslop arriving in theaters. If you’re planning to see “The Fantastic Four” when it opens this weekend, keep an eye out for these ultra-premium, collectable Galactus helmets. Dollar for dollar, these might be the most ridiculous buckets we’ve covered so far, and it’s possible we’re looking down the barrel of a major flip. Here’s what you need to know.
That’s right, the Fantastic Four are hitting the theaters yet again. Friday’s premiere of “The Fantastic Four: The First Steps” marks the series’ third official film and second reboot following the failure of the 2015 film.
Hopefully things will work out for them this time. They’ve got Pedro Pascal, so how bad can it be? In any case, theaters are already spinning up merch for “The First Steps”, obviously including collectable popcorn buckets.
We got our first look at “Fantastic Four” Galactus popcorn buckets earlier this month. These are modeled on the head of the film’s main villain, Galactus, molded from bright metallic purple plastic with glowing LED eyes.
It’s also big as hell. The official measurements label it as 20″ wide (9.6″ wide without horns) x 17.5″ tall x 9.6″ deep, and can hold up to 361 oz of popcorn, nearly three gallons.
While filling that bucket with movie theater popcorn will be expensive, that doesn’t compare to the official price. Both AMC and Regal will be selling the “Fantastic Four” Galactus popcorn bucket for $80, more than four times the average ticket price for the film.
Worth it? Probably not, but the concept of a collectable popcorn bucket doesn’t real have anything to do with real world usage, functionality, or spending your money intelligently.
Valid question. Popcorn buckets have become a reliable and lucrative flip in the last few years, with designs for movies like “Dune: Part 2“, “F1“, and “Gladiator 2” all reselling for solid profits.
But none of these retailed for $80. It’s not like these Galactus buckets get you into a special screening of the movie or come to life and do your taxes. In fact, most people won’t ever fill them with popcorn. Is that enough for them to resell?
Yes, apparently! People like buying dumb shit, and this is pretty far up on the list of dumb shit. They’re already getting attention online, and we’re already seeing “Fantastic Four” Galactus popcorn buckets reselling for upwards of $120 right now.
This isn’t anything incredible, but we’re still early. The movie hasn’t even released yet, and there’s plenty of time for these buckets to pop off on social media.
In any case, this is the best time to start stocking up on the buckets. While they’re listed for preorder online right now, the only way to buy a “Fantastic Four” Galactus popcorn bucket is at an AMC or Regal theater, in-person.
You aren’t required to buy a ticket to the movie (or popcorn for that matter), and you can generally buy several buckets at once if the concessions worker is in a good mood.
These are supposed to be released alongside the film, but we’re hearing firsthand reports that they’re already being put up for sale in AMC and Regal theaters ahead of the premiere. Obviously, expect no refunds or returns.
We’ll let you decide for yourself if these buckets are worth buying. While you’re here, subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on the latest flips and reselling news as it happens. From signed vinyl to Stanley tumblers, we’ve got everything you need to make a profit.
