Eminem sold a new line of merchandise this week through his online store
The new collection was themed around his 1999 album “Slim Shady”
Some items like the signed license plates are reselling for up to $4,000
Like most media products that were big in the 90s, Eminem is still kicking around. In fact, he’s still churning out new albums, guest appearances, and plenty of wildly overpriced merch. That’s exactly what we’re looking at today. Yes, there’s a whole new collection of Eminem branded merch for sale, and yes, there a whole of Eminem fans lapping it up. Let’s take a look.
Now, just by that title alone there are probably some hardcore Eminem fans getting their pitchforks ready. Yes, the “Slim Shady” EP was released in 1997, meaning that this year marks its 27th anniversary, but the “Slim Shady” LP came out on February 23, 1999.
So chill out, and if you got the dates confused are you even a real Eminem fan to begin with? Anyways, to celebrate 25 years of “Slim Shady”, the real Slim Shady has been hawking a new load of quality merch.
And just what does that look like? Well, you can check out Eminem’s webstore here, but we’ll bring some highlights to you. There’s a $75 package of plain white tees (a certified Shady collectible™), plush doll, and an actually pretty cool vinyl with a zoetrope design for $200.
The collection also included a host of new clothes from tees to hoodies to track pants. If you’re a Shady fan then this was probably very exciting for you, but resellers were primarily interested in the more limited parts of the collection.
Speaking of which, there was something very rare, very expensive, and very silly that most resellers were eyeing from the start.
For those with money to be burn or credit cards left unmaxed, there was only one item from this collection that could truly satisfy:
A custom collectable Michigan license plate emblazoned with “SHADY”, shipped with a collector’s plaque signed by the real Slim Shady.
Oh, and the price? Nothing crazy, just $1,000 (they don’t take Klarna). If the idea of buying one of these plates is getting you hot, we’ve got bad news. Eminem sold all of them over the weekend.
And then something funny started happening. Well, funny for us.
Naturally something this outrageously overpriced, autographed, and useless was in high demand. Now that Eminem’s fans have had a chance to grow up, get jobs, and kick their kids out of the house; they have a little extra cash to throw around.
If you can’t give it to Marshall Mathers directly, why not a reseller embodying the hustler’s spirit?
Within 24 hours of the plates selling out online, eBay was filled up with listings for them from resellers. Right now a signed Eminem License Plate is reselling for upwards of $3,000.
Hey, if Eminem can ask for $1,000, shouldn’t we be able to profit a bit too? Resellers have families too! And car payments. And we need new Rolexes…
Anyways, sorry to the Eminem fans that got excited by the idea of buying one of these for retail, only to be cruelly extorted. We feel very, very, very bad.
