Key Points

  • “Elf” Sherpa Back Throws are available at Pottery Barn for $99

  • Resellers have been flipping them for $400+ through the holidays

  • Prices are down but you can still make a profit

Christmas may be over, but there are still some Christmas flips going around. Pottery Barn is selling a Sherpa back throw blanket based on the movie “Elf”. Naturally, childless millennials across the country are dying to have one, and all through December these have been reselling. If you can snag one at retail, you might be able to still flip at a premium before the year ends.

Buddy the Elf Throw Blanket

We all love “Elf”, right? It’s got Will Ferrell in it so that automatically makes it funny, and there’s that scene where he eats a bunch of spaghetti with maple syrup on it which also really, really, really, really, funny.

If you’re looking for a way to show your dedication to a 20 year old movie that’s somehow wiggled its way into becoming a Christmas classic, we’ve got just the product for you.

Pottery Barn sells a collection of Sherpa back throw blankets for the holidays. One of these is a throw designed to look like Buddy the Elf’s tunic from “Elf“. Made from 100% (recycled!) plastic, these are the perfect blankets for anyone still hung up on the early aughts.

It’s also reversible, machine-washable, and free of harmful chemicals. The “Elf” back throw from Pottery Barn is $99, and out of stock pretty much everywhere.

If you do manage to find one in stock, we recommend picking one up. All through December, these blankets have been reselling at a premium.

At their peak, Elf Sherpa Back Throws were reselling for upwards of $400 at a time. Resellers that got them early and flipped them before Christmas were able to make $300 or more in profit off of a single flip.

Elf Sherpa Back Throw For Sale

Of course, now that the holidays are over interest in these is beginning to flag. Sales for them have dipped recently and they will likely not resell for the same highs again.

If you have space and don’t mind a long hold, stocking up on these now and attempting to flip them next year could be very profitable. It’s also considerably risky, as Pottery Barn may end up producing them in greater numbers in 2024.

Still, they’re worth keeping an eye out for. See if you can find one and attempt to flip it locally for more than you paid. It’s still December, and the window for reselling anything Christmas-related is closing fast.

This isn’t the only bit of “Elf” merchandise we’ve covered recently. Check out our article on the MGA Miniverse “Elf” crossover. Resellers were able to cheap plastic toys for up to ten times what they retailed for, and all it took was a kitchen scale.
