Resellers Score Big on Discounted Craftsman Edgers

Not every profitable flip means selling above MSRP

Craftsman CMEED400 Edger Price Error Reseller

Key Points

  • Lowes sold the Craftsman CMEED400 electric edger at $19 clearance from normal $140 retail

  • Current resale prices on Facebook Marketplace and eBay average around $80 for local pickup

  • Most sales happen locally due to bulky size and shipping costs that would eat into margins

Earlier this week, Lowes marked down the Craftsman 7.5-inch corded electric lawn edger by more than 80% its retail price, and resellers moved fast. The CMEED400 model is now sold out both online and in most stores. Now they’re reappearing on eBay and FaceBook Marketplaces for prices that everyone likes.

Lowes CMEED400 Clearance Sale

The 12-amp electric edger normally retails for $140 at Lowes, Ace Hardware, and other retailers. Lowes marked it down to $19 clearance pricing both in-store and online, making it one of the steepest discounts on power tools this year. The pricing error or inventory clearance lasted long enough for alert resellers to grab multiple units before stock ran dry.

This wasn’t some obscure off-brand tool either. Craftsman’s CMEED400 is a legitimate lawn edger with a high-torque motor, three blade-depth settings, and adjustable auxiliary handle. It’s designed for edging along sidewalks, driveways, and garden borders with precision control.

Clearance sales are nothing new, and retailers will typically mark a low-stock item down to rock bottom prices to clear space for new products. These opportunities don’t last very long, and they can be extremely lucrative for resellers that act fast and buy in bulk.

Resellers who copped units at $19 are listing them locally around $80 on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and Craigslist. Some eBay listings show slightly higher asking prices, but shipping costs on a lawn edger make local pickup the smarter play for both buyer and seller.

At $80, buyers are still getting the edger for roughly 43% below retail, which makes it an easy sell for homeowners who need one but missed the clearance. For resellers, the math works out to around $61 profit per unit after Facebook Marketplace’s 5% fee.

The local-only approach matters here because shipping a push-behind lawn edger costs $20-30 minimum due to size and weight. That cuts profit margins significantly unless you’re charging closer to retail, which defeats the purpose of buying clearance flips.

The nice part here is that everyone wins. Resellers score some quick profit by flipping these edgers for more than they paid, and buyers are getting a great deal for well under MSRP.

Not every flip requires to you to sell items for a huge markup. In the past, we’ve written about price errors for Nautilus ellipticals and even video game merch that gets marked down so low you can make a profit by reselling it for less than the standard retail price.

Bottom Line

The CMEED400 isn’t discontinued. It’s still actively sold at full price through other retailers like Ace Hardware and Amazon, which validates the $140 MSRP and makes $80 resale pricing reasonable. Buyers know they’re getting a deal below retail without wondering if the tool is outdated.

Lowes clearance is exhausted. Resellers who grabbed inventory are sitting on $60+ profit per unit with local sales moving steadily through marketplace platforms. The units that got flipped early probably sold fastest since buyers could verify the Lowes clearance pricing was real.

The Craftsman edger clearance was a clean win for resellers who caught it. Buying at $19, selling at $80, and pocketing $60+ profit per unit on local sales is solid retail arbitrage without the complexity of shipping logistics or platform fees eating your margins.

If you grabbed units, price them competitively around $75-80 for quick local sales. If you missed it, this is the kind of seasonal clearance pattern worth watching at big box stores heading into inventory transition periods.
