Supermodel Claudia Schiffer got the Barbie treatment last week
The dolls were $85 and required a Barbie Signature membership to purchase
Resellers have been flipping them for nearly double that price
Did you blink? Then you missed it. Last week Mattel produced an extremely limited Barbie based on the supermodel Claudia Schiffer. Within a few minutes, all of the dolls were sold. This was an extremely popular product, and resellers had presale listings up on eBay a week before the doll actually went live. Now that the sale is over and the Barbies are spoken for, they’re reselling at a significant premium.
Barbie has been on a tear this year. We’re sure you don’t need to hear that, but this really has been a record year for the doll company.
Hot off the heels of the Barbie movie back in July, the brand has been pumping out doll after doll. Resellers have been there every step of the way, flipping dolls like the Maria Felix, Stevie Nicks, and special Pink Magnolia crossover.
Now we’re looking at the 2023 Claudia Schiffer Barbie. If you’re a Zoomer, the name might not be familiar. She’s a German supermodel, well known during the 90s and 2000s, but still quite a big name today.
Also, her eyes go in two different directions.

The Barbie in question is based on Schiffer’s appearance at the 1994 Fall/Winter Atelier Versace show (sans exotropia). She’s got a big blue Versace gown with matching taffeta corset.
Claudia Schiffer actually chose the outfit for the doll while consulting with Mattel’s design team. This is now her third Barbie, after receiving dolls based on her likeness in 2017 and 2020.
As we all know, repetition is the spice of life. In any case, these dolls were extremely popular. Barbie Signatures tend to be rarest, least produced, and most sought after Barbies made. This was no exception.
The Claudia Schiffer Barbie sold through Mattel’s website for $85 on November 29. A Barbie Signature membership was required to make a purchase.
These were so popular that presale listings for them have been going up on eBay for the last week. Essentially, this is just a way for resellers to gauge both demand and the potential market for an upcoming product.
For these Barbies, most of the presales were between $100 and $250. Once the dolls actually released, many, many more listings would go up for around the same price. Currently, the Claudia Schiffer Barbie is reselling for around $150.
At $85 retail, that meant most resellers were able to nearly double their money. Customers were limited to 1 per user, so without a little extra effort total profits couldn’t get too crazy. Still, it’s regular, reliable flips like these that any reseller should be going after.
If you want to learn more about reselling Barbies, you’re in the right place. We said it before, but this has been a big year for the doll. Check out our other articles for examples of Barbies that resell, and subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on the next one.
