7-Eleven exclusive Lapras cards were available in some Asian countries
They were given out with the purchase of a Stellar Crown booster pack
The cards are now reselling for up to $50
Earlier this month, The Pokemon Company made an unexpected partnership with 7-Eleven. A limited number of Lapras trading cards were given out along with the purchase of a booster pack. These cards featured unique art with a 7-Eleven stamp, and only available in Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia. American collectors have begun buying these cards on eBay, and are hoping this collaboration comes stateside, soon.
What’s your go-to gas station order? Takis and a Starry? Slim Jim? A packet of pills from the counter and a some kratom? For some people, a trip to the convenience store means Pokemon cards.
At certain 7-Eleven locations in Asia, you can receive an exclusive Pokemon card depicting Lapras. These are part of a promotion for the recently released Stellar Crown expansion. Aside from distinct key art, these cards also feature a… prominent 7-Eleven stamp on the front.
Or as one Reddit comment put it: “Goddamn that is the laziest promo stamp I have ever seen.” Aside from the 7-Eleven branding, there’s not much special to the cards. They’re not holos or foils, and feature no special treatments.
Something notable about the cards is that they are exclusively printed in English, but not sold in the US. The only way to get a 7-Eleven Lapras card is to buy a Stellar Crown booster pack from a 7-Eleven in Singapore, Malaysia, or the Philippines
Probably not. Hope is nice and all, but the odds that Lapras 7-Eleven cards will be sold in the USA are pretty long. This is not the first time Pokemon has created a regional promo card, and none of the previous drops were ever released outside their region.
As of now, collectors outside the region will need to either book a ticket or buy from a reseller. Thankfully, a market has already emerged to help them out a bit.
Within hours of the cards releasing across Asia, 7-Eleven Lapras promo cards began reselling. These are rare and popular enough in the US that collectors are willing to pay for raw cards, and it’ll probably be a little while until we see graded cards start selling.
Right now, 7-Eleven Lapras cards are reselling for $20 to $40 at a time. Considering that you can get a Stellar Crown booster pack for about $20, these cards are an opportunity for resellers to essentially pick up their packs for free.
Good enough? We certainly think so. Guilt-free box breaking is a pretty nice feeling, and there’s even the potential to profit.
And that’s pretty much the whole story. Region-exclusive cards, US collectors get FOMO, Asian resellers get their money. We’ll check in later to see if graded 7-Eleven Lapras cards take off.
Until then, subscribe to our newsletter if you want to learn more about reselling. We cover all kinds of new products that flip for a profit, but you won’t hear about any of it if you’re not subscribed.
