The Stanley craze might be over
The Mint sold 100,000 American Eagle silver coins this week
They were $105 and sold out fast
Resellers are flipping them for $180 to $250
Did you know you can make money by reselling money? It’s not as unusual as it sounds. Coin collectors are willing to pay plenty of cash for the right release, and the US Mint just dropped something everyone had their eyes on. New 2025 Laser Engraved American Eagle Silver Proof coins were sold through the Mint’s webstore this week, with resellers already turning triple-digit profits on every coin they flip. Let’s take a look.
If you’re on this website, there’s a good chance you’re a reseller or a coin collector that’s mad they missed this drop. If you’re part of the latter camp, we definitely don’t need to tell you how profitable coins can be.
But maybe you’re in the former, so allow us to do a little educating. While most resellers prefer to stick to what they know; cards, shoes, consoles; smart scalpers know there’s a lot of money to be made off the beaten path.
And that includes coins. The US Mint frequently strikes semi-limited runs of new coins, with certain designs taking off within collector circles. Yesterday, they sold a batch of 2025 Laser Engraved American Eagle One-Ounce Silver coins.
The “laser engraved” in the name means the coins were produced using new laser-engraved master dies, theoretically improving precision and detail compared to conventional methods.
Each coin bears a unique laser beam privy mark to signify the technology’s use, and the entire run was limited to 100,000 coins, relatively low for a silver proof.
Note the unique privy mark
The US Mint sold the 2025 Laser Engraved American Eagle coin for $105 through their webstore on August 20. They sold out shortly after their release, with the coins now listed as available for backorder.
Fortunately, there’s always an easy solution for people with extra money and limited patience. These coins might be sold out through the Mint, but plenty of them are listed for sale on eBay.
Right now, 2025 US Mint Laser Engraved American Eagle Silver coins are reselling for around $180, with some outlier sales going for up to $250.
And while the Mint restricted customers to one coin, this limit could be easily circumvented. Many resellers were able to load up on as many as 10 coins before they sold out. At $80 or so in profit per coin, you see just how lucrative this opportunity could be.
It’s possible that more coins will restock soon in limited numbers. We saw the Mint’s recent Army 250th Anniversary coin restock around five times in the weeks after the sale, with each restock usually selling out within a few minutes. Keep your eyes peeled.
