Victor Wembanyama spent Wednesday night putting up numbers that look like someone playing 2K on Rookie, and Topps did what Topps does best: turned it into a card while sportscasters were discussing the performance. The Spurs star set new career highs in scoring and rebounding, swatted shots like he was annoyed by them to ultimately take a one-point victory over the Mavericks. Now collectors get a print-to-order card of the night, plus a lottery ticket at a one-of-one with an actual strand of the Frost Bank Center net inside it.

Wemby's Historic Night on Cardboard

The Wembanyama Topps NOW card #62 celebrates San Antonio’s 112-111 win over Dallas on November 4, where Wemby finished with 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks. Both the points and rebounds were career highs, which is a wild thing to say about a player who already has a Defensive Player of the Year award and a Finals run on his resume.

Topps NOW is the company’s print-on-demand program. There’s no fixed print run going in; Topps prints exactly as many base cards as people order during the sale window, then publishes the final count afterward.

Mixed in randomly with the base cards are foil parallels numbered from /50 down to a 1/1 FoilFractor, image variation short prints, autograph-relic redemptions numbered to five, and the headliner: a 1/1 autograph relic with a piece of the game’s net embedded in the card. Any of those hits replaces the base card in the order that lands it.

Wemby has been here before. His Game 1 performance against Oklahoma City in last season’s playoffs got a net relic 1/1, and that release pulled an 80,578 print run, his biggest Topps NOW card ever.

Bottom Line

Wemby’s NOW cards tend to print in the tens of thousands, and base copies of his recent releases have traded for roughly $6 to $8 on eBay. After the $11.99 price, shipping, and eBay fees, a base copy is a likely loss.

The play here is the chase. Foil parallels numbered to /50 and lower carry real premiums for a player at Wemby’s level, and the net relic auto 1/1 will be one of the more desirable modern Wembanyama cards out there. Big print runs can also unlock extra Chrome parallel tiers, so a strong order count makes the pool of hits a little deeper. Just understand the odds: you’re buying a base card with a very small shot at something much better.
