NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani, who spent the better part of a year fighting FIFA over ticket scalping and demanding resale price caps, is dropping 1,500 handmade jerseys at $50 a pop to celebrate the World Cup. They’re in-person only, limited to 500 units per colorway, and already getting national press coverage. Sure, a handful of these will go to real NYC soccer fans. The rest will be resold for five times their retail price.

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani partnered with Brooklyn-based designer Arsh Raziuddin and Mazzi Sports, a family-owned apparel shop that has been making jerseys out of Bed-Stuy since 1983, to produce three World Cup-themed kits representing New York City.

The designs lean into classic city iconography: a Big Apple crest, a pigeon graphic, subway-inspired sleeve patches, and a bold “New York City” chest logo. The three colorways are black and white, yellow and black, and blue and orange.

These aren’t bootlegs or campaign merch knockoffs. They’re handmade in Brooklyn, sold at cost, and designed as a direct counterpoint to the official FIFA World Cup 2026 host city jerseys retailing for $375. At $50, Mamdani’s office positioned these as “for New Yorkers, by New Yorkers.” The resellers positioning themselves outside the NYC City Store tomorrow morning may have a different framing.

No limit per customer has been announced publicly, though that could change at the door. If you’re in the city, it’s worth showing up early.

Mamdani spent months publicly pressuring FIFA to cap resale prices and called scalping a threat to working people. His $50 ticket lottery made the tickets non-transferable specifically to prevent secondary market activity.

At the low end, we expect to see these reselling for at least $200. These are relatively scarce, instantly collectible, and produced in explicitly limited quantities. How much will trust fund kids pay to collect all three?

We don’t know, but we’re excited to find out. If you’re a New Yorker, the mayor is handing out free money tomorrow. The line will probably be long, but this is worth grabbing some friends and securing the bag.

All of the designs will be popular. If the City Store only allows you to purchase one, we recommend the orange and blue colorway as this has crossover appeal for Mets and Knicks fans, but we don’t expect to see any major differences in resell prices between designs.
