The Nex Playground is the hottest toy of 2024
They are $200, and sold out everywhere
Resellers are flipping them for over $300, with some sales edging up to $450
If you’re a parent or deal with children a lot, you know kids love screens. The Nex Playground is an innovative console that bridges video games with active play, getting kids and parents on their feet and having fun. The system has blown up on social media over the last few weeks, and is looking like the most popular Christmas gift in 2024. Naturally, resellers have joined the fun, and the sold-out consoles are already reselling for a serious profit. There’s less than a week left until Christmas Day, so consider this your last chance to get in on this flip.
Depending on how old you are, you might have some fond memories of the Nintendo Wii. Remember when everyone was enamored with the motion-focused console, from little kids to little old ladies?
Games are a lot simpler when it’s just motions, and less fiddling with buttons and joysticks means a much wider audience can appreciate the world of gaming.
The Nex Playground is the next iteration on this design philosophy. Simple from the ground up, the console itself is a softball-sized cube that hooks up to your TV with a single HDMI cable. Controllers? Forget it, the Playground is entirely motion-controlled, from the menus to the games.
It’s worth noting that Nex is billing the Playground as a “play system”, and not a video game console. The games themselves are designed around getting kids (and their parents) off the couch and moving around.
And you won’t be finding any “Call of Duty” or “Fortnite” on this console either. The games are mostly internally developed, or spun-off versions of familiar titles like “Fruit Ninja”. No violence, no blood, just kid-friendly games with an emphasis on active play.
The Nex Playground costs $200, and is available through most major retailers. After positive reviews from mommy bloggers and family magazines, stores are having a lot of trouble keeping the Playground stocked.
Aside from the upfront cost, there is an optional subscription for the Nex Playground. For $50 quarterly or $90 yearly, you can expand the console’s library with an additional 30+ games. These feature popular IPs like Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, and Kung Fu Panda.
The Play Pass regularly updates with new games. As far as we can tell, there is no way to buy individual games. If you don’t purchase the subscription, you’ll be stuck with the basic five games that ship with each console.
We’re gonna let you in on some reselling knowledge. Every year before Christmas, a handful of products will pick up viral attention, and become the hot thing to have. Some times it’s kid’s toys, personal groomers, we’ve even covered modular couches.
When you mix up heightened consumer interest, constrained supply, and viral marketing, you get the perfect circumstances for a reseller to thrive. We’re seeing that right now with these consoles.
At the moment, Nex Playgrounds are reselling for upwards of $300. Nex has done a good job restocking these through the month, which has kept prices from getting too crazy. We’ve seen prices get as high as $450 in between restocks.
With just days remaining until Christmas, demand for the Nex Playground is at its highest. With expedited shipping it might be possible to get them under the tree in time, but we will likely see local sales pick up steam over the next week.
If you manage to find one of these in person, we recommend buying it. These are not a difficult item to flip, and you’re looking at an easy $100 in profit with minimal effort.
