The indie film “Anora” hit theaters last weekend to solid reviews. If you’re looking for something to watch, we might have an opportunity for you. During select 35mm showings, some theaters are giving away Anora film strips to moviegoers. These are limited collectables that won’t last long, and you’ll need to call ahead to see if your theater has any. We’ve seen film strips resell for hundreds of dollars before, and this is looking like another solid flip.

Anora 35mm Film Strips

Seen any good movies lately? 2024 has been a huge year for film, with releases like Dune: Part 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2 dominating at box offices.

But these have all been major studio works. What about indie movies? If you’re in the mood for something a little more lowkey, you might want to check out Anora. After showing at Cannes in May, Anora is premiering at theaters across the country.

Following Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn as lovers cast in a morass of sex, money, and crime; the film is getting incredible reviews from critics and viewers.

Anora won the Palme d’Or at Cannes this year, making it the first American film to win since 2011. Showings during its weekend premiere were sold out, and you might have to scramble to find a ticket.

If you do, we have an opportunity for you. Collectable 35mm Anora film strips are being given out at select theaters. These are only available during 35mm showings, and not every theater will have them.

To get an Anora film strip, you’ll need to contact a participating 35mm theater near you and ask what days, if any, they will be giving out strips. These are generally on a first-come, first-served basis, and supplies are very limited.

You can find a list of Anora showings here, and then filter by 35mm film. Additionally, the official Anora Instagram has posted a list of upcoming 35mm showings, including cities like Austin, San Francisco, and Portland.

Again, not all of these will be giving away 35mm strips. At least one NYC theater confirmed on Reddit that they will be giving out strips past premiere weekend, but it’s unclear how many other theaters will participate. Call ahead before you grab tickets.

Anora Film Strips Resell

If you’re already interested in seeing this movie, attending a showing with these film strips is a great opportunity. They make for a cool collectable, and we’re already seeing them appear on eBay.

Right now, Anora 35mm film strips are reselling for about $30. Modest, sure, but it’ll cover the cost of your ticket and some of your concessions.

But we’re thinking of the long run. Anora has just hit theaters, and the early reviews are incredibly strong. Mikey Madison’s performance as Anora is being hailed as one of the best of the year, and the film currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 93% on Metacritic.

With the Oscars coming soon, these film strips might make for a risky long-term hold for the ambitious reseller. Anora was distributed by Neon, who also saw over the successes of films like Parasite, Titane, and Longlegs.

Film strips have become a very popular collectable in the last few years, with major releases like Oppenheimer and Longlegs ending up on eBay for over $200 at a time.

This is a longshot. Don’t go into it expecting incredible profits, but worst case scenario you’ll end up watching a movie for free. And who knows – in a few months these strips might be reselling for some truly incredible numbers.
