Mattel’s latest NFT drop is a Hot Wheels Batmobile collection
Packs of six cards are available for $25
Collecting all 19 NFTs rewards you with a physical Hot Wheels
If the NFT rush passed you by, we’ve got one more opportunity to throw your money away. Mattel recently launched a Hot Wheels collection themed around the Batmobile. 19 different virtual cars were minted with various rarities, and holders of every card from the collection will receive a physical Batmobile after the snapshot date. Collectors and resellers have already started fighting over the drop, and we’re beginning to see aftermarket sales.
It’s never too late to hop on a trend. Mattel started producing Hot Wheels NFTs in 2022, and recently launched their latest collection last Friday, this time featuring various Batmobiles.
Hot Wheels’ Batmobile NFT drop consisted of 19 different Batmobiles over the franchise’s history. If you didn’t know, 2024 marks Batman’s 85th anniversary, and there have been a few different celebrations, including AMC’s commemorative popcorn buckets.
Back to NFTs. Collectors were first able to buy Hot Wheels Batmobile NFT packs on September 20. Each pack included six cards for $25, and you could buy up to eight at a time.
Cards from each pack were assigned one of four rarities:
Each pack includes three Common cards and two Uncommon cards. And even if collecting NFTs isn’t really your thing, Mattel has still made this collection appealing.
If you’re able to collect all 19 NFTs from the collection, Mattel will send you a unique physical Batmobile based on the classic TV series. These are finished in a distinctive Spectraflame brown, and will not be sold conventionally.
Worth it? Without a doubt, to some collectors. We’ve seen rare and collectable Hot Wheels trade hands for a serious premium, and these cars are looking to join the club.
Following the mint, collectors quickly began buying packs directly from Hot Wheels and hoping for a lucky pull. After a few hours, resellers started making their listings but found things to be pretty slow.
Right now, the floor for a Hot Wheels Batmobile NFT is around 0.10 ETH, or about $230. Higher rarity cards like the Chrome 2022 Batmobile are listed at 0.70, upwards of $1,500.
But no one’s actually paying these prices. OpenSea has only recorded two actual sales for the Hot Wheels Batmobile NFT collection, both for around 0.0005 ETH, or around $10.
Not so great. But not very surprising, considering you can still buy unopened packs of Batmobile NFTs directly from Mattel.
But it’s not all bad news. Some resellers have started creating presale listings for the physical Batmobile Hot Wheels cars. These won’t release until February, but collectors are already paying upwards of $300 for them.
At $25 a pack, a reseller has a decent chance to get all of the cards to complete a set without spending too much. If they can find a collector willing to fork over for their physical Batmobile, it’s an “everyone’s happy” situation.
