The Deadpool video game was released in 2011 and quickly pulled from sale
It’s become very popular after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine
Resellers are flipping copies for up to $100
While it’s true that most of the items we cover on this blog are new releases, sometimes older products can suddenly become hot commodities. Today we’ll be looking at copies of Deadpool for the PS4, which has exploded in value this month. Despite reviewing poorly at the time and being mostly forgotten by fans of the series, this Deadpool video game is finding new life on eBay. You can still find copies at local stores, yard sales, and online.
It’s been a pretty slow year for Marvel fans. After a whirlwind of rushed films and box office underperformers, Disney has pulled back the reins and pared the release schedule down significantly in 2024.
But this summer did see the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. After hitting theaters in July, the film would become the highest grossing R-rated movie ever, and the second biggest release of 2024 after Inside Out 2.
Naturally, there have been plenty of opportunities for resellers along the way. Over the last few weeks, we’ve covered products like Deadpool & Wolverine claw machine necklaces and collectable popcorn buckets.
Now we’ve got one more, and it’s a little weird. Back in 2013, the Deadpool video game was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. While it found a few fans, most critics dismissed it as repetitive, juvenile, and poorly made.
Activision’s license for the character expired a year later, and the game was removed from digital storefronts and pulled from stores. The game was remastered and re-released on next-gen consoles to coincide with the Deadpool movie released in 2015, and then once again pulled.
And it’s remained off the market, forgotten, and mostly ignored since. At least until last month. After Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters, gamers began searching for Deadpool video games to play, only to discover their only options were discontinued copies for old consoles.
Due to licensing issues, Activision legally cannot sell the Deadpool video game. This is a problem that’s only become more common lately, and one you’re probably familiar with if you’ve tried to play older racing or sports video games.
Even with the increased demand, Activision’s hands are tied. A second Deadpool game may very well be in the works, but gamers’ only choice right now is to find a copy of Deadpool for the PS4 or Xbox One secondhand.
You know who can help out with that? Resellers. Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, prices for the Deadpool video game have rocketed from an average of $10 up to nearly $100.
Of course, piracy makes this a non-issue for PC players, but console kids and collectors will have to settle for hard copies. The good news is that you can still find them at local stores for much less than what other resellers are asking on eBay.
Search secondhand video game stores near you, or find people liquidating their old video game libraries. As time goes on and word spreads, it will get harder to find copies for their original price, but not impossible.
If you manage to find even one copy, it’s a ticket to make a quick $80 or so with minimal effort. Worth it? As always, that’s up to you, but we think it’s a pretty easy flip considering the potential profit.
